     Home Visitor Child Development
     Associate®
      The HV Child Development Associate® is a
       person able to meet the specific needs of
       parents and their children and who, with parents
       and other adults and professionals, works to
       help parents nurture their children’s
       physical, social, emotional, and intellectual
       growth in a child development framework.

       competency standards and credentialing
       process are always relevant, current, and
       aligned with best practices.

     Background
      The 2012 revised Home Visitor CDA includes:

      1. updated Home Visitor Competency Standards
          and assessment instruments
      2. streamlined and simplified LAT process to
          facilitate a smooth evaluation process
      3. new publications and forms that reflect the
          changes

2012 Edition of the Home Visitor CDA Credential




      The core standards are the same, but their definition
       and examples were updated and expanded.

      The Standards reflect current research and new trends in the field of
       early childhood education and the body of knowledge and appropriate
       practice expected of the CDA Home Visitor as the adult educator.

      These expectations include knowledge of brain development,
       social-emotional development, challenging behaviors, domestic
       violence, substance abuse, networking with community
       agencies, individual family planning and implementation, crisis
       intervention, cultural sensitivity, and advocacy, among other subjects.

      Emphasis was added on language, literacy and dual language
       learners.

   Education Requirements
     The revised content must be included in the 120 clock hours of training.

   1.    Promoting health and safety in the home environment
   2.    Enhancing parents’ skills to advance children’s physical and
         intellectual development
   3.    Promoting parents’ use of positive ways to support children’s social
         and emotional development
   4.    Understanding family systems and development
   5.    Managing an effective home visitor program operation
   6.    Maintaining a commitment to professionalism
   7.    Working across the child welfare continuum
   8.    Understanding principles of child developing and learning

    All assessment instruments now reflect the updated content and
    performance expectations. They include

    - Parent Questionnaires

 Candidate Responsibilities

   - A total of 39 essay entries (3 per each FA)   - Resource Collection (17 items)
