Philosophy 105-940, Quiz #4, on textbook, Chapter 4, and "Genetic Fallacy" (on Blackboard). Posted by Friday, November 11. DUE: Friday, November 18, Noon.
NAME ________________________
Grade + points
Each passage below contains one of the inductive fallacies presented in the textbook's Chapter 4. I have put a list of fallacies at the top of this sheet, numbered 1–16. For each passage below, fill in its blank space with the number [not the name] of the fallacy exhibited in the passage. There are 5 passages that are worth 4 points each, so the total is 20 points. Part-credit is sometimes available for genuinely close but incorrect answers. Keep these hints in mind: (1) the same number might be the right answer more than once (that is, for more than one passage); (2) not all 16 numbers will be used as answers (that would be impossible); (3) it is possible that a passage (one or more) illustrates no fallacy; if so, put "NA" in its underscored blank; and (4) in each case, your goal is the best match.
Each answer will look like this: ___n___
where n is some numeral, 1–16.

The reason for this is simple. If just one faculty person is willing to extend deadlines, then all students will expect every professor to extend deadlines no matter the circumstances (or possible excuses). If that should happen, it’s obvious that the value of the discipline of scholarly work will be irretrievably lost on our students.

4. ______ College students today are more selfish than students growing up in the 1950s, seeing as they are definitely more concerned with their own financial matters than with world affairs. I know this because in a recent survey of Drexel business majors, 25% said they were more concerned about paying their credit card bills than the condition of the world and the actions of their gove ...
