This document discusses a study assessing the genetic diversity of the gaucho population in southern Brazil, focusing on 547 individuals including native American tribes (Guarani and Kaingang) and mixed-heritage individuals. It analyzes maternal and paternal uniparental markers from these populations, revealing significant distinctions in genetic heritage and the influence of European, Amerindian, and African ancestries on the gaucho population. The findings highlight the ongoing genetic and cultural legacies of native peoples in the region's contemporary identities.
