The document compares and contrasts the Romantic and Victorian ages in British literature. The Romantic age from the late 18th to early 19th century featured emotional and nature-focused works by poets like Wordsworth and Coleridge. In contrast, the Victorian era from 1837-1901 saw a turn to realism and social issues in novels by writers like Dickens responding to industrialization and inequality. Both periods were reactions to major cultural changes occurring in Britain at the time.

The Romantic Age in English literature began in 1798 with the publication of Lyrical Ballads by Wordsworth and Coleridge. This work introduced a new form of poetry that focused on everyday life and common language, in opposition to the formal style of the Classical school. Wordsworth's Preface outlined his theory that poetry should reflect spontaneous emotions and use ordinary language. The Romantic poets, including Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley and Keats, embraced themes of nature, imagination, and individual liberty and helped establish poetry as the dominant genre of this period.
The document summarizes the three main groups of Romantic poets in England: the Lake Poets (Wordsworth, Coleridge, Southey), the Scott Group (Campbell, Walter Scott, Thomas Campbell), and the Younger Group (Byron, Shelley, Keats). It then provides more detailed biographies of the three Lake Poets - Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Southey - focusing on their origins, works, philosophies, and influences in spearheading the Romantic movement in poetry through their rejection of conventional styles and embrace of naturalism and the supernatural.
The document discusses the key characteristics of Romanticism in English literature. It notes that Romanticism began in the late 18th century with poets like Wordsworth and Coleridge, and was influenced by earlier "Transition Poets". The movement emphasized nature, emotion, medievalism, folk culture, and the supernatural. It highlighted the individual artistic spirit and moved away from rigid Neoclassical conventions. Some hallmarks included an appreciation of nature, a focus on strong personal feelings, and the incorporation of simpler language and folk forms of expression. While definitions varied, Romanticism tended to prize emotion and imagination over reason.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

3. Romantic age
➔ First half of the nineteenth century ,Generally recorded as a
romantic period in english literature
➔ Normally romantic age or Romanticism taken place from the
1770s to 1830s .
➔ It is a characterized by emotional language and praise of
nature.
➔ During this time common people start reading Bible .
➔ William wordsworth ,samuel coleridge , Robert
southey,Byron,shelley are consider a romantic poets .
4. —William wordsworth
"Like clouds that rake, the mountain
summits or waves that own no curbing
hand, how fast has brother followed
brother,from sunshine to sunless land".
5. Victorian age
➔ Came in existence during the religion of queen victoria.(1837-1901).
➔ Rather than praising nature, they talks about social concerns such as
poverty.
➔ But similarity between both the age are reaction to cultural changes.
➔ When queen victoria came on throne.in 1837. We found sun of
English literature fainted of after coluridge, Shelley, Byron and Scott.
➔ William j. Long in his book mentioned one quote of Wordsworth,
written in 1835, which talks about emptiness in literature in the
beginning of victorian period.
6. COMPARISON between romANTIC AGE AND VICTORIAN AGE
❏ Use of Language
➔ Romantic literature is emotionally expressive . It often
uses phrases such as “oh…!” ,”Alas!” to give the
impression of sudden onrush of feelings
➔ But the victorian poets or writers are not using such
language because they want to show the world as it
really was. So they use modern expressions and
language. And make less use of flowery metaphors and
images
9. Emotions vs Reality
➢ Romantic writers are known for emotional outbursts, as
William Wordsworth called it,
"The spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings".
➢ Romantic poetry is majority known for its sudden
expression of joy, sadness,and excitement.
➢ Victorian literature, take literature as deliberately craft
and they used careful structure and language. It's we see
in Browning' s poem, ' my last Duchess'. The poem uses
irony.so that, it will became hard to understand for their
long and complicated plot.such like Jude the obscure
10. Poetry and Prose
➔ We found romantic age reflected the glory of poetry.we
found it in the poetry of Scott, Wordsworth, Coleridge,
Byron, Shelley, Keats,moore and southey.
➔ Southey and Coleridge also wrote prose, more than
poetry.mainly they write prose for money. Willam j.
Long write in his book that southey states that,
"What would otherwise have been better written in
prose".
➔ Victorian era mainly known as age of prose
