In this creative writing assignment you will travel back in time and imagine what life was like
for an individual in the past. You will understand the impact of time and space on perspective,
develop a narrative structure, describe how peoples, groups, cultures and institutions change
over time, recognize how social, cultural, gender, race, religion, nationality and other identities
affect historical perspective, and practice research skills.
Tasks:
1. Select one of the following to write your first person narrative about. (Remember you can
be any gender or race that would be appropriate for that character and if you have a
suggestion of a character that is not here but falls in the scope of chapters 13-14 of our
text, please contact me with that idea before proceeding.)
a. A Lutheran Noble in Germany
b. A Protestant or Calvinist in any country between 1500-1600
c. A Sailor in the Spanish Armada during the Anglo-Spanish War
d. A Huguenot survivor of the Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre
e. An apprentice in a German Print shop
f. A devout Catholic in Germany during the Lutheran Reformation
g. A Nun in Spain
2. Research what every day life was like for your character during the period covered in our
text chapters 13 and 14. While you research, keep in mind that historical references like
historic dates, actual places, and events add credibility and interest to your writing.
3. Compose a fictional, first person narrative either in Journal format or a two page double
spaced paper. If you select Journal format, you must have at least 10 journal entries
from your character that are one paragraph long. The narrative does not need to be a
biography of your character but rather describe one period or event in their lives.
Remember to use descriptions that really bring your audience to the moment… think what
sounds or smells your character might sense in the moment your writing about.
4. Be as accurate as possible. For example, your character will not be able to use cell
phones or a computer; in fact walking may be their only form of transportation . . .
5. Include a bibliography of three sources you used in your research.
6. Turn you assignment into the Dropbox by the scheduled due date, but you may also post
it in the optional discussion for classmate feedback.

Living In a New Post Apocalyptic World:
An analysis of “Diary of an Interesting Year”
How would the world react to being thrown into a post apocalyptic setting? What behaviors and instincts would come out once the world is literally brought down to its knees? Author Helen Simpson seems to give us an account of how it might be through the eyes of the female character in her story. Helen is an author of short stories and novels and she resides in London. In an interview she states that relative subjects about everyday problems that could eventually lead to bigger problems, aren’t what people what to hear about or bother themselves with. She states that in the short stories, it’s meant to grab someone’s attention in the first couple of lines so they are intrigued to read through the story and possibly get a better understanding and feeling that things of this magnitude can possibly happen in the real world. Diary of an Interesting Year, Simpson lets us see how a freshly turned 30 year old woman in London views the world around her and the precautions and the actions she must take in what is happening around her. In director John Hillcoat’s film adaptation of “The Road,” Hillcoat wanted to show the movie audience that this story was about if you did survive an event of this magnitude, what would be the next step? He wanted to project exactly what humanity’s worst fears would be, are

we prepared for it all, and how do we leave it all if it’s our time. He wanted the viewers own imagination to be the front runner in their process of analyzing and understanding this film. Though they are two different views and accounts of a post apocalypse earth, they drive to the same question, what would humanity do if we were ever met with this tragedy?
So how does the human mind psychologically view what people would call “The End of Times”? Doomsday seems to be something that is prevalent in all cultures and seems to span over all eras of time spanning back all the way to text in the Book of Daniel in the Bible. In an article, psychologist Jeff Greenberg explains that humans and animals have a basic survival mechanism hard grained inside of us, but unlike animals, humans are the only ones aware of their impending death and knowing that one day we must all come to an end. Greenberg believes that humans create cultural traditions and views that trick our minds to give us a sense of permanence in this world. He goes on to say that Armageddon’s attract people who feel insignificant with a hope of a better future. When it comes to religious persons views on the apocalypse, they feel the event would bring paradise to Earth or send their souls off into heaven. For Doomsday preppers, he feels that these people preparing for the worst case scenario is a way for them to avoid the anxiety of everyday life, because if they are doing something to prepare themselves then in the end they w.
Exegesis
The narrator's grandfather tells him a story over many years about three daughters in a family that represent aspects of humanity. The youngest daughter is cast out for being too different and not understanding others. The second daughter leaves home seeking something missing and destroys herself before returning home broken. The eldest daughter chooses to leave home to start her own family but remains whole by understanding herself. The grandfather tells the story to redeem humanity, which he sees as losing its way by not understanding individual differences and identities.

Though they are two different views and accounts of a post apocalypse earth, they drive to the same question, what would humanity do if we were ever met with this tragedy?
So how does the human mind psychologically view what people would call “The End of Times”? Doomsday seems to be something that is prevalent in all cultures and seems to span over all eras of time spanning back all the way to text in the Book of Daniel in the Bible. In an article, psychologist Jeff Greenberg explains that humans and animals have a basic survival mechanism hard grained inside of us, but unlike animals, humans are the only ones aware of their impending death and knowing that one day we must all come to an end. Greenberg believes that humans create cultural traditions and views that trick our minds to give us a sense of permanence in this world. He goes on to say that Armageddon’s attract people who feel insignificant with a hope of a better future. When it comes to religious persons views on the apocalypse, they feel the event would bring paradise to Earth or send their souls off into heaven. For Doomsday preppers, he feels that these people preparing for the worst case scenario is a way for them to avoid the anxiety of everyday life, because if they are doing something to prepare themselves then in the end they w.
Exegesis
The narrator's grandfather tells him a story over many years about three daughters in a family that represent aspects of humanity. The youngest daughter is cast out for being too different and not understanding others. The second daughter leaves home seeking something missing and destroys herself before returning home broken. The eldest daughter chooses to leave home to start her own family but remains whole by understanding herself. The grandfather tells the story to redeem humanity, which he sees as losing its way by not understanding individual differences and identities.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
