How landscape photography and it’s industry developed since Niépce’s “Urban L...samuel nixon
Landscape photography first began in the 1820s but faced backlash from painters who saw it as a threat. Early photography required long exposures and complex chemical processes. Throughout the 1800s, equipment and techniques improved, reducing exposure times and allowing mass production. After World War 2, companies like Nikon and Canon thrived, having gained experience producing optical equipment for the military. Today, the photography industry is a multi-billion dollar business, with landscape photographers able to connect with audiences through YouTube and sell photos online or in calendars and classes.

The document summarizes and compares two murals painted in Lexington, Kentucky by street artists MTO and Eduardo Kobra. Kobra's mural "Lincoln" depicts Abraham Lincoln in bright, patriotic colors and was informed by his research into Lexington's history. In contrast, MTO's mural "My Name is MO" uses dark tones and depicts an ambiguous caged figure, suggesting a personal statement about oppression. While Kobra engaged with the local community, MTO kept his process private, leaving some controversy. The document analyzes the artists' approaches in the context of street art movements and the goals of revitalizing Lexington's downtown area through public art commissions.
ESMOD Berlin Annual Panel - (What Comes After) Metamodernism - Digital Booklet Esmod Berlin
ESMOD Berlin is pleased to present a digital publication from our inaugural Annual Panel held in May of this year. The panel discussed (What Comes After) Metamodernism, a term coined to describe the shift in contemporary culture away from the trademarks of post modernism. The panels’ brief was to explore the dominant oscillation in culture between disillusionment and meaningfulness, between apathy and empathy with key questions such as; In what direction are the globalized youth going and why? Where is there an overlap with the recent past? Where do we find a combination in the analog and digital in designing individual concepts of life?
Bringing together experts from across various cultural fields the panel discussion was led by Paul Feigelfeld from the Digital Cultures Research Lab Centre, Leuphana University, and included special guests speaker Alex Lieu, Chief Creative Officer and Lead Design Director of 42 Entertainment based in California. 42 Entertainment are one of the leading companies in transmedia marketing whom blur the boundaries between marketing and entertainment. 42 Entertainment are most well known for their innovative campaign for American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails for their album Year Zero, which extrapolated the theme of a dystopian future beyond the album through leaking unreleased recordings online, and planting USB sticks in the toilets of concerts venues, which lead fans down a thrilling rabbit hole into a world of online and offline acts of underground resistance.
Dealing with the life and work of digital dissents, German Author and Director Angela Richter also participated in the panel discussion. Richter spoke about her time working with Wikileakers Founder and digital activist Julian Assange, of whom she wrote a play Assassinate Assange, premiering in 2012. Other notable panelists included Joerg Koch, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of German culture magazine 032c, as well as Dutch cultural philosopher Robin van den Akker, whom with his colleague Timotheus Vermeulen, coined the term metamodernsm and founded the online magazine Notes on Metamodernsim.
Traversing topics such as sci-fi literature, digital hacktivism, sustainable architecture, fashion and DIY maker culture, the publication aims to capture some of the intense and surprising discussions that took place. The ESMOD Berlin Annual Panel is a program conceived for students from a number of international schools, including L'Institut Francais de la Mode, Paris; ESMOD Berlin International Masters Programme – Sustainability in Fashion, Berlin; and Dessau Institute of Architecture. The booklet also aims to deliver an insight into how the students negotiated the concepts and questions raised during discussion.

Modernism arose in the 19th century in response to industrialization and urbanization. Artists rejected depicting historical events and instead portrayed modern life, anxieties, and class relations. New artistic movements developed, and art became more accessible through museums, lithography, and photography. In the 20th century, postmodernism emerged as a departure from modernism's ideals of rationality and authentic style. Postmodernists embraced pluralism, mixing high and low culture and styles old and new.
The document discusses how transmedia storytelling was used for the 2012 London Olympics. It was one of the largest global events with over 4 billion viewers. Transmedia elements like social media, hundreds of platforms, and sponsor integration helped create excitement. Audience interaction was highly successful due to engagement across many online and offline channels. The Olympics demonstrated how transmedia can be employed broadly in events and industries.
This document outlines a project for students to create a television news bulletin reporting on cultural events happening in different European cities. It provides instructions for students to work in groups and take on the roles of reporters from various cities. They will research and present news segments in the language of the city they represent for subjects including chemistry, social studies, languages, and more. Students will then record their role play of the news broadcast as their final task. Links are also provided to assist with researching cultural information for various European countries and cities.
With the contributions of Rainer Beck, Simone Aliprandi, Ivo Planötscher/Verena Malfertheiner and Alessandro Campaner/Marlene Huber, the handout offers an insight into the highly current subject of photo rights. The authors provide overviews of the legal situation in Austria as well as Italy, prove the value of open data in the cultural sector and, in addition, devote themselves to the "right to one’s own image" and the licensing via Creative Commons. In several infographics, Notburga Siller summarizes the central information on photo rights for basic orientation. Helpful links and bibliographical references complete the handout.

Format: 96,5 x 127 cm / 37.8 x 50 inch
Material: Fine Art Paper with hand-torn edges.
Method: Mixed Media, Stencil, Spray Paint.
Edition: Unique

Beautiful Girl by Mr. Brainwash is a mixed media artwork on paper done in 2023. It is unique and of course signed by Mr. Brainwash. The picture is a tribute to his own most successful work of art, the Balloon Girl. In this new creation, however, the theme of the little girl is slightly modified.
In Mr. Brainwash’s mixed media artwork titled “Beautiful Girl,” we are presented with a captivating depiction of a little girl adorned in a summer dress, with two playful pigtails framing her face. The artwork exudes a sense of innocence and whimsy, as the girl is shown in a dreamy state, lifting one end of her skirt and looking down as if she were about to dance. Through the use of mixed media, Mr. Brainwash skillfully combines different artistic elements to create a visually striking composition. The vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes bring the artwork to life, evoking a sense of joy and happiness. The attention to detail in the girl’s expression and body language adds depth and character to the piece, allowing viewers to connect with the young protagonist on a personal and emotional level. “Beautiful Girl” is a testament to Mr. Brainwash’s unique artistic style, blending elements of street art, pop art, and contemporary art to create a visually captivating and emotionally resonant artwork.
The use of mixed media in “Beautiful Girl” adds an additional layer of complexity to the artwork. By combining different artistic techniques and materials, such as stencils, spray paint, and collage, Mr. Brainwash creates a dynamic and textured composition that grabs the viewer’s attention. The juxtaposition of different textures and patterns adds depth and visual interest to the piece, while also emphasizing the artist’s eclectic and experimental approach to art-making. The inclusion of collage elements, such as newspaper clippings and torn posters, further enhances the artwork’s urban and contemporary feel. Overall, “Beautiful Girl” is a visually captivating and thought-provoking artwork that showcases Mr. Brainwash’s talent for blending different artistic elements to create a truly unique and engaging piece.

usada como forma de expressão artística por numerosos fotógrafos e criadores de imagens; serve de partilha ampla nas redes sociais como o

Colectivo f4 – Porta 22 no Porto.

22 Countries - 66 "hipstographers" - 202 "hipstagraphies"
Hipstamatic app for iPhone has had an immense success, a fact that is due to a set of circumstances: it is used by photojournalists such as the case of
Damon Winter who published in the NYT having won an international prize with a story about the war in Afghanistan; it is used as a form of artistic
expression by numerous photographers and image makers; serves broad sharing in social networks like Facebook and it is a very appealing app
because of the varied "lenses" and "movies" which provide images as diverse as spectacular.
This exhibition and this book arise as a result of some challenges that have been placed to me.
In October 2011, with my friends Carlos Vilela and Paulo F. we carried out the 1st exhibition in Portugal, in the Hipstamatic Gallery of Colectivo f4 –
Porta 22 at Porto. This exhibition has also been presented in the city of Viana do Castelo in April 2012.
The page Portugal Hipstamatic was created on Facebook.
And considering the many pages on Facebook devoted to Hipstamatic all over the world and the intense interaction among all the creators of images
with this app, it should be referred Roberto Murgia, one of the several activists in Sardinia. Roberto proposed, in social media, an exhibition
congregating "hipstographers" from around the world. One day Luis Raposo, one of the animators of the Colectivo f4 and Gallery Porta 22 at Porto,
challenged me to pick up on the idea of Roberto Murgia and to organise that great exhibition.
Hands on and so I did it. Here is the result, in this book, with 202 Hipstamatic images of 66 creators from 22 countries so different in purpose but with
a rare and beautiful variety.
