201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 She was very understanding with
conflicts and always gave great
feedback on every assignment.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 She was very understanding and wanted
to get to the bottom of a problem or
situation because she is constantly in
the same position.
Don't make the course so cookie cutter,
it was the same process every week,
nothing changed. MAKE THE COURSE
GRADED NOT PASS/FAIL.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 The notes helped me understand the
course.
Online math just doesn't really work for
me. I need a teacher, and the polya staff
just isn't enough. I also wish the
homework wouldn't be due until the time
class starts and not just midnight before
the day of your class.
201610 - Fall

201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 Especially with the final
assignment, I relied on her to get
a good grade, and she really
helped me out with improving my
assignment
The material was delivered clearly, and I
think that helped me out
I don't think anything could be improved
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 When we would have
conferences about our essays
she was very helpful in what we
needed to edit on the essay to
improve our grade for the final
draft.
How in detail she went over the course
material and what was expected of us in
the essay, as well as the group work, so
we could get other perspectives other
than our own.
I felt like the book wasn't needed other
than to look at the format our essays
should be in for our last two essays.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 Caitlin was able to schedule
conferences that worked with my
day. I was able to talk to her after
class most days with issues I
was having in the class.
I liked the free write at the beginning of
each class.
If we could have spent more time on
essay 4, that would have been better. I
know its due to the face everything has
to be done by the end of the semester,
but if we could have spent less time on
essay 1 and 2, I think we could have
used that time with essay 4.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 The class was upbeat and an overall
good learning environment. The work
load was not overwhelming and helped
further the development of writing skills.
Knowing that the course is just a
prerequisite to ENGL 102.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 She met with u all individually and
helped us on our papers which
was very helpful
How happy she was to be teaching and
how she tried to relate to us and when
we had to do certain things, like daily
writings we listen to a song during, which
was more motivating
Nothing, this instructor did an amazing
job for her first year

201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 She was very helpful and very
responsive on her email and on
the work we turned in.
Everything Make it a little harder maybe?
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 She was very good at answering
my questions and clarifying her
instructions.
She had great office hours and was very
flexible with them.
I think some of the instructions she was
given need to be more clear, because
she said she had to re read a lot of
things before she understood them and
was trying to fully understand them for
us.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 Every time I had a question the
instructor never had a problem
helping me out. Many a time did I
email her when I was confused
and I always got an answer that
helped me out greatly.
At some points we would listen to music
while we would free write. That would
often help me focus. Every time the
instructor would ask if any of us were
confused she would wait for a few
moments to give us time to think.
I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I have
nothing to comment in this section
201610 - Fall

Intro to College

ENGL 101 great course nice job Caitlin Hill.
Would recommend

201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 Professor Hill for ENGL 101 gave us
multiple opportunities to boost our
grades through her office hours or extra
credit assignments.
The textbook used for this course was
not very helpful.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 She knew what she was talking about
and had a lot of good tips. Was very
helpful.
I think sometimes we would meet for
class and we would not do a lot of
relevant things. Near the end of the
course, I liked how we would work on
homework and get the chance to ask
questions and work with the instructor.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College

ENGL 101 The material was presented in a fun and
inviting environment.
I feel satisfied with this course.
201610 - Fall
2016
Intro to College
Writing
ENGL 101 The different forms of writing we went
over along with the different activities we
had throughout the semester. And the
willingness of the professor to help
clarify the students needs or questions.
Maybe no more music with the quick
write I found it somewhat distracting to
my writing at times.

ENGL 102 Caitlin understood the time
constraints put on a college
student and how that affected
time management and the
amount of time required to finish
an assignment. She provided
positive encouragement
regarding paper and project
ideas as well as helping narrow
down ambitious topics to
manageable ones.
The creativity required to complete the
material gave more motivation to give
each assignment your all rather than
having to produce draining, novel length
essays on a daily basis.
More examples and references in
constructing each major assignment as
to get a visual representation of what the
instructor wants us to do. More
emphasis on technical writing for those
going into the Maths and Sciences
where creative writing is not as useful.
However, make the presentation of this
topic as well, fun just like the rest of the
class.

ENGL 102 The instructor was very helpful
outside of class with things like
emails and conferences. I think
that it really helped in this course.
I liked how in this course we had lots of
discussions and did activities that
helped us learn more, at least that is
how it was for me.
There wasn't really anything that I didn't
like about this course, I thought that it
was really good.

College

ENGL 102 Hill was really understanding and willing
to work with students. Also, she was
approachable and I enjoyed having her
as a teacher.
The course had lots of busy work, and
some classes felt a bit longer than
necessary.
201710 - Fall
2017
College
Writing & Rhetoric
ENGL 102 The conferences helped center focus
on the main projects and keep things on
track that might have otherwise gone off
topic.
The last assignment as a last
assignment felt lacking. It didn't feel like
you needed to put a lot of time into the
project. While there were many
interesting outcomes from the
assignment there were just as many, if
not more, ones that meet all criteria yet
just seem dry.

ENGL 293 The conference felt like a fun

feedback on the final essay and
pushing the student to engage
writers and essays that they
could emulate.
The laid-back teaching style was
matched with clear expectations and a
strong class structure, creating a good
environment to learn and grow. I
especially appreciated the selection of
essays we read and the way workshop
was conducted (casual but efficacious).
It may or may not fit the focus of the
course, but maybe even more emphasis
on revision.

Thorough explanations.
The set up of having daily readings
paired with daily journal entries and the
occasional larger-scale essay each
week helped me see improvement in
writing and nonfiction comprehension
over the semester. Interesting topics
and good presentation of a diverse
amount of topics. Workshop and
revision conferences at the end of the
semester allowed for a more focused
view on each student, both in the
classroom and the professor's office
hours.
The only thing I can think about is having
a more comprehensive list of the
participation events sponsored by the
English department that is updated a bit
more throughout the semester.

Beginning Nonfiction
Writing
ENGL 293 The exercises were all helpful and
pushed my writing forward.
I think there's way too much reading in
this course. I agree with Caitlin that good
writing is informed by reading, but when
two or three essays were assigned per
class, I always felt like I had to burn
through them in order to stay caught up,
and this made it hard to try and really
dive into the craft of the assigned
reading. I felt like I often came away
from the reading understanding what
was being written about, but struggling to
understand how it was written. I think
reading just one essay per class would
be far more helpful in terms of looking at
craft, and the class could still cover a
large amount of writing.
201810 - Fall
2018
Beginning Nonfiction
Writing
ENGL 293 Hill scheduled conferences
outside of class to talk about one
of our projects we worked on. I
find one on one conferences with
teachers to be really helpful while
in the middle of working on a
project to see exactly what they
want to be accomplished in an
assignment and to get new ideas
for them.
In Hill's class we would be assigned two
or three readings almost every class
period and we would discuss them in the
following class. I found this activity very
helpful in my learning because it showed
me different tools that accomplished
writers use in their work and allowed me
to try these techniques in my own
writing.
Hill's nonfiction class was very
enjoyable. The only aspect that I think
could use improvement is the rules for
workshop which I don't think were bad
they just needed to be better used
during class time.

ENGL 293 The instructor was very kind and
worked with her students on both
a both professional and personal
level to ensure we all felt
comfortable with our
assignments.
The class allowed for an open mind
approach with no judgement from the
instructor or the students. There was no
right or wrong answer to how writing
should be done. Only simple guidelines
to help direct the students.
More class time as several of the topics
discussed were simply too much
information to cover in such a short time.

  • 1. Comment Report for Hill,Caitlin 13:23 Monday, June 10, 2019 1Comment Report for Hill,Caitlin 13:23 Monday, June 10, 2019 1 SEMESTER Course Code Number Instructor Comment Course Comment What could be improved 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 She was very understanding with conflicts and always gave great feedback on every assignment. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 She was very understanding and wanted to get to the bottom of a problem or situation because she is constantly in the same position. Don't make the course so cookie cutter, it was the same process every week, nothing changed. MAKE THE COURSE GRADED NOT PASS/FAIL. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 The notes helped me understand the course. Online math just doesn't really work for me. I need a teacher, and the polya staff just isn't enough. I also wish the homework wouldn't be due until the time class starts and not just midnight before the day of your class. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 she had an engaging personality that made it a joy ti come to class N/A 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 Especially with the final assignment, I relied on her to get a good grade, and she really helped me out with improving my assignment The material was delivered clearly, and I think that helped me out I don't think anything could be improved 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 When we would have conferences about our essays she was very helpful in what we needed to edit on the essay to improve our grade for the final draft. How in detail she went over the course material and what was expected of us in the essay, as well as the group work, so we could get other perspectives other than our own. I felt like the book wasn't needed other than to look at the format our essays should be in for our last two essays. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 Caitlin was able to schedule conferences that worked with my day. I was able to talk to her after class most days with issues I was having in the class. I liked the free write at the beginning of each class. If we could have spent more time on essay 4, that would have been better. I know its due to the face everything has to be done by the end of the semester, but if we could have spent less time on essay 1 and 2, I think we could have used that time with essay 4. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 The class was upbeat and an overall good learning environment. The work load was not overwhelming and helped further the development of writing skills. Knowing that the course is just a prerequisite to ENGL 102. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 She met with u all individually and helped us on our papers which was very helpful How happy she was to be teaching and how she tried to relate to us and when we had to do certain things, like daily writings we listen to a song during, which was more motivating Nothing, this instructor did an amazing job for her first year
  • 2. Comment Report for Hill,Caitlin 13:23 Monday, June 10, 2019 2 SEMESTER Course Code Number Instructor Comment Course Comment What could be improved 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 She was very helpful and very responsive on her email and on the work we turned in. Everything Make it a little harder maybe? 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 She was very good at answering my questions and clarifying her instructions. She had great office hours and was very flexible with them. I think some of the instructions she was given need to be more clear, because she said she had to re read a lot of things before she understood them and was trying to fully understand them for us. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 Every time I had a question the instructor never had a problem helping me out. Many a time did I email her when I was confused and I always got an answer that helped me out greatly. At some points we would listen to music while we would free write. That would often help me focus. Every time the instructor would ask if any of us were confused she would wait for a few moments to give us time to think. I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I have nothing to comment in this section 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 great course nice job Caitlin Hill. Would recommend small class size is a plus more lessons in class 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 Professor Hill for ENGL 101 gave us multiple opportunities to boost our grades through her office hours or extra credit assignments. The textbook used for this course was not very helpful. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 She knew what she was talking about and had a lot of good tips. Was very helpful. I think sometimes we would meet for class and we would not do a lot of relevant things. Near the end of the course, I liked how we would work on homework and get the chance to ask questions and work with the instructor. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 The material was presented in a fun and inviting environment. I feel satisfied with this course. 201610 - Fall 2016 Intro to College Writing ENGL 101 The different forms of writing we went over along with the different activities we had throughout the semester. And the willingness of the professor to help clarify the students needs or questions. Maybe no more music with the quick write I found it somewhat distracting to my writing at times. 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 The daily journal entries that got the ball rolling for the day. The question also went with the topic being discussed that day in class

She was always kind, and wanted to see all of us succeed. 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Graduate teacher more empathetic with students. Laidback environment allows students to feel comfortable seeking help or not. 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 The assignments were well structured in step by step processes. No comment 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 My instructor was very willing to help any of us outside of the classroom I learned more about the importance of a good rhetoric The course is perfect 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Clear class goals and class discussions. N/A 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 She allowed us to regularly schedule appointments with her to review our work and our progress on our current assignments All courses were very practically taught with a clear focus on how we would apply these skills. 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 fantastic!! perfection! 201620 - Spring 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 She is amazing! She is amazing! 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 My instructor made English not feel like a chore. Nothing! Perfect teacher 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Fairly accessible Instructor provided lots of feedback More engaging lessons 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Caitlin understood the time constraints put on a college student and how that affected time management and the amount of time required to finish an assignment. She provided positive encouragement regarding paper and project ideas as well as helping narrow down ambitious topics to manageable ones. The creativity required to complete the material gave more motivation to give each assignment your all rather than having to produce draining, novel length essays on a daily basis. More examples and references in constructing each major assignment as to get a visual representation of what the instructor wants us to do. More emphasis on technical writing for those going into the Maths and Sciences where creative writing is not as useful. However, make the presentation of this topic as well, fun just like the rest of the class.

Comment Report for Hill,Caitlin 13:23 Monday, June 10, 2019 4 SEMESTER Course Code Number Instructor Comment Course Comment What could be improved 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 The instructor was always very kind and willing to help. There was a very supportive environment and students were able to express themselves creatively. We were given ample time to complete projects, and the instructor was very nice. I really liked the course, I wouldn't change or improve anything. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Unique class structure--not just lecture every day. Feedback from instructor was helpful on the major assignments, especially when given on a rough draft stage as well as the final draft. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 I got an ENGL 102 credit... Nothing, the instructor explains the course material well. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 How helpful she was. everything was good in the class 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Instructor was helpful. Journals were fun. I liked the journals. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 It was more interactive than I initially thought. Less group work in class. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Teacher is very accessible. N/A 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 All of the assignments and projects were well organized on the blackboard. Material was always reviewed in class. There could have been more of a diversity in the assignments. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 The instructor was very helpful outside of class with things like emails and conferences. I think that it really helped in this course. I liked how in this course we had lots of discussions and did activities that helped us learn more, at least that is how it was for me. There wasn't really anything that I didn't like about this course, I thought that it was really good. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Hill was really understanding and willing to work with students. Also, she was approachable and I enjoyed having her as a teacher. The course had lots of busy work, and some classes felt a bit longer than necessary. 201710 - Fall 2017 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 The conferences helped center focus on the main projects and keep things on track that might have otherwise gone off topic. The last assignment as a last assignment felt lacking. It didn't feel like you needed to put a lot of time into the project. While there were many interesting outcomes from the assignment there were just as many, if not more, ones that meet all criteria yet just seem dry.
  • 5. Comment Report for Hill,Caitlin 13:23 Monday, June 10, 2019 5 SEMESTER Course Code Number Instructor Comment Course Comment What could be improved 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Replying to emails instantly, conferences In this class, we did a lot of conferences where we could get one on one attention and help from our instructor. the instructor provided powerpoints, examples and more to help us do our absolute best on all assignments. doing journals to practice writing and encourage imagination at the beginning of every class. socratic seminars was perfect! 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Went a little too fast in my opinion. 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Returns helpful feedback on writing development. N/A 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 She was helpful during office hours. Very boring, but I liked doing journals. It helped me get my thoughts out. Needs to be more interactive. 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 I did not understand what her told well in class and make mistakes in assignment conference for every unit and SOCRATIC FRIDAY QUESTION Using a second language to write essay is not easy and did not get enough information from the conference 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 I liked the freedom to pick topics for projects. I didn't feel challenged by the curriculum. Perhaps make assignments more challenging. 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 Overall this course was well structured and I learned a lot 201720 - Spring 2018 College Writing & Rhetoric ENGL 102 One on one meeting sessions? She was so helpful and no assignment ever felt like a chore. I enjoyed the class Nothing 201810 - Fall 2018 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 The conference felt like a fun chat while still providing useful feedback on the final essay and pushing the student to engage writers and essays that they could emulate. The laid-back teaching style was matched with clear expectations and a strong class structure, creating a good environment to learn and grow. I especially appreciated the selection of essays we read and the way workshop was conducted (casual but efficacious). It may or may not fit the focus of the course, but maybe even more emphasis on revision. 201810 - Fall 2018 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 There was a lot of reading on other stories prior to workshop and during workshop it was such a great learning opportunity for our own work as well as our peers. I think a second workshop of our stories would have been helpful to the process.
  • 6. Comment Report for Hill,Caitlin 13:23 Monday, June 10, 2019 6 SEMESTER Course Code Number Instructor Comment Course Comment What could be improved 201810 - Fall 2018 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 She answered any questions I had and was easy to reach by email. She made sure that everyone was welcome to stop by her office hours or schedule an appointment if needed. Thorough explanations. The set up of having daily readings paired with daily journal entries and the occasional larger-scale essay each week helped me see improvement in writing and nonfiction comprehension over the semester. Interesting topics and good presentation of a diverse amount of topics. Workshop and revision conferences at the end of the semester allowed for a more focused view on each student, both in the classroom and the professor's office hours. The only thing I can think about is having a more comprehensive list of the participation events sponsored by the English department that is updated a bit more throughout the semester. 201810 - Fall 2018 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 The exercises were all helpful and pushed my writing forward. I think there's way too much reading in this course. I agree with Caitlin that good writing is informed by reading, but when two or three essays were assigned per class, I always felt like I had to burn through them in order to stay caught up, and this made it hard to try and really dive into the craft of the assigned reading. I felt like I often came away from the reading understanding what was being written about, but struggling to understand how it was written. I think reading just one essay per class would be far more helpful in terms of looking at craft, and the class could still cover a large amount of writing. 201810 - Fall 2018 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 Hill scheduled conferences outside of class to talk about one of our projects we worked on. I find one on one conferences with teachers to be really helpful while in the middle of working on a project to see exactly what they want to be accomplished in an assignment and to get new ideas for them. In Hill's class we would be assigned two or three readings almost every class period and we would discuss them in the following class. I found this activity very helpful in my learning because it showed me different tools that accomplished writers use in their work and allowed me to try these techniques in my own writing. Hill's nonfiction class was very enjoyable. The only aspect that I think could use improvement is the rules for workshop which I don't think were bad they just needed to be better used during class time. 201820 - Spring 2019 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 The instructor was very kind and worked with her students on both a both professional and personal level to ensure we all felt comfortable with our assignments. The class allowed for an open mind approach with no judgement from the instructor or the students. There was no right or wrong answer to how writing should be done. Only simple guidelines to help direct the students. More class time as several of the topics discussed were simply too much information to cover in such a short time.
  • 7. Comment Report for Hill,Caitlin 13:23 Monday, June 10, 2019 7 SEMESTER Course Code Number Instructor Comment Course Comment What could be improved 201820 - Spring 2019 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 A relaxed atmosphere which in my opinion is needed in such a personal class as nonfiction. More writing. 201820 - Spring 2019 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 Caitlin is obviously passionate about the topic which made the material more exciting to learn. More organized syllabus of journal entries. 201820 - Spring 2019 Beginning Nonfiction Writing ENGL 293 The set up of having lectures mixed with small, focused, approaches to prose months before anything was workshopped set us up for knowing what we're looking to improve and how to talk about it. Great class, nothing to add.
