USAID-AIN project conducted a study to finding out high potential commercial aquaculture growth region in South West Bangladesh. In this presentation around BDT 5,000 crore aquaculture market for Tilapia and Pangus was found.

of investment in aquaculture by private sector
Study title:
Identifying high potential/emerging commercial freshwater
aquaculture areas in SW Bangladesh
3. Objectives of the Workshop
• Sharing the findings & results of the study
• Identifying the potential private sectors who can invest
• Identification of potential areas of future investment by
the private sectors
• Gathering feedback, comments and recommendations
from different stakeholders
• Incorporating recommendations in the final report to
develop mutual future strategy
4. Background and Rationale of Study
• 20 districts of SW region comprise 27 million people facing challenges-
o Food and nutrition insecurity
o scarce water resources
o sea level rising
o vulnerability to extreme shocks and
o changing weather patterns
• USAID funded AIN project’s contribution increased production,
profit, income and reduced poverty of 0.7 million fish and shrimp
farmers last 5 years
• Projects’ innovation and applied technologies can be replicated
through private sector’s investment for aquaculture sector
development in this area
• The study will assist the private sectors to understand the potential
and/or emerging commercial aquaculture growth areas for investment

There is no Pangus Hatchery in this area, so hatchery can be established.
Although 31 Hatcheries producing quality tilapia seed still scope more
quality tilapia seed production. New hatcheries can also be established.
