Presented during the 17h Annual Sahelo-Saharan Interest Group Meeting organized by the NGO Sahara Conservation Fund in Senegal, from 4 to 6 May 2017. The Sahara Conservation Fund (SCF) gathers every year about a hundred people who are interested in the field of Sahelo-Saharan species conservation.

- 12. 12 Conclusions & recommendations • First record of high mortality of raptors by electrocution in North Africa. • The level electrocution detected has a large impact on the conservation of threatened raptors at national and international level. • An important area for the conservation of the Spanish Imperial and Bonellis’ eagles in Morocco has been identified. • The high mortality detected requires an urgent action to mitigate the impact on local and global raptor populations. • In the last 10 years, the increase of electricity lines in remote areas of Morocco could represent a serious threat for the small and threatened populations of Bearded and Egyptian vultures of the country. • New surveys must be implemented to detect other potential areas where electrocution could be a threat for raptors populations. • This effort must be focused on those areas with threatened species and not only in Morocco; other countries in North Africa must be explored too.
