Herzog Construction Corporation implemented CheckMate Tool Tracking software from Dynamic Systems to track tools and equipment issued to work crews. This helped reduce losses from 10% of purchases to a more manageable level. Using barcode labels on tools and signature capture, Herzog could track which employee had what tool. They estimated this would save $20,000 per month, recouping the cost of the system within 2 weeks. Deric Berry of Herzog said improved productivity and profitability is expected as they expand this tracking system to other sites.

In 2009, Herzog implemented CheckMate Toolroom from Dynamic Systems at both Denver
Transit and North Texas Rail job sites. The software allows the site managers to know who
checked out the tool last, when it was checked out and to set a return due date. They use
the signature capture feature offered with CheckMate, requiring all employees to sign for the
tools issued, therefore eliminating any dispute regarding responsibility for the equipment.
