Heinrich Rudolf Hertz (1857 - 1894) was a German physicist famous for his work in electromagnetism. He proved electric current has negligible mass through experiments. Hertz concluded Maxwell's electromagnetic theory of light was the most promising after comparing it to other theories. He devised an oscillator that transmitted and received electromagnetic waves, discovering radio waves. Hertz also conclusively proved Maxwell's theory by showing the energy from his oscillators traveled at the speed of light. His work laid the foundation for modern communications technology.
