Haridwar is an ancient and important Hindu pilgrimage site in northern India, located where the Ganges River exits the Himalayas. The largest bathing steps, Har Ki Pauri, host a nightly ceremony where tiny lamps are floated in worship of the Ganges River. Large crowds fill the city during major festivals, including an annual pilgrimage by devotees carrying Ganges water.
