Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is the current pope and sovereign of Vatican City. He worked as a chemical technician and nightclub bouncer before entering the seminary. Bergoglio became a Catholic priest in 1969 and later served as the Archbishop of Buenos Aires from 1998 to 2013, when he was elected pope.
