Lightning Talk #9: How UX and Data Storytelling Can Shape Policy by Mika Aldabaux singapore
How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves?
Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.
Content personalisation is becoming more prevalent. A site, it's content and/or it's products, change dynamically according to the specific needs of the user. SEO needs to ensure we do not fall behind of this trend.
Velocity Conference: Increasing Speed To Market In Mobile Development Through...Intuit Inc.
In the past few years, Intuit has put an intense focus on ramping up its innovation engine. A big part of this effort is speeding up time-to-market for its hundreds of native mobile apps, while maintaining the highest quality standards. The apps need to work across an ever-increasing number of devices and versions of the operating system.
Once our engineers had access to all possible combinations of devices and operating systems, they needed to be able to kick off automated testing whenever they checked in code. We enable mobile continuous integration by integrating our virtual device lab with our test execution platform and Jenkins system. A notification system detects the arrival of a new build of our mobile products, which kicks off execution of automated tests based on a pre-configured test matrix.
The result is a 95% reduction in the time it takes to test our mobile apps.
Rewriting your Master Testing Strategy is in order when you look to tackle your first mobile initiative. This includes getting your test environments ready for testing. Often test environments have been on closed internal networks that are not accessible from the internet. Delivering and testing a mobile application on a 3G or 4G network changes all that. Coming up with a supported platform strategy is also paramount to success. One needs to take network speed, device features, screen size and resolution as well as multi-tasking life-cycles into effect when testing. QA testers will need to become familiar on how to service the devices they test with as well. Additionally the team will need to incorporate field testing prior to delivery. This presentation will organize the challenges a modern QA team has to contend with, and make some strong suggestions on how to craft a respectable Mobile Test Strategy.

The burgeoning use of mobile devices has created enormous opportunities for organizations to leverage mobile to increase sales, advertise products, and collaborate with internal and external resources. However, with increasing usage, the need to perform testing on these devices is increasing significantly. This is not an easy task considering the number of devices, device operating systems, and operating system versions. To manage the number of variations, organizations rely on mobile testing tools to support their testing efforts. David Dang shares his experiences analyzing numerous mobile testing tool platforms for a prominent shopping network. Learn how identifying the "right" mobile testing tool depends on multiple factors such as supported devices, level of testing, resources, and required integration with other tools. Take back to share with your team a review of common tools on the market and the pros and cons of each.

Security is a high priority when developing and testing mobile apps for companies that are sensitive to security. Access to a provider’s Cloud-hosted testing resources may be convenient and cost-effective, but the security of that environment falls under their control. What was originally a solution becomes a risk to your institution’s data and information.
Among other challenges faced by developers and testers using generic Cloud testing resources:
* Securing a location for devices.
* Concentrating a central pool of devices accessed by offsite development and testing teams;
* Distribution of work across geographically isolated teams;
* Specific device identification and availability;

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Editor's Notes
What gave birth to this talk: Participating in a lot of the mobile meet up activities that are included in the appendices, I have noticed that developers of the apps are in the dark ages of usability --
LOTS OF MOVING PARTS!!
Keep repeating the word ‘consideration’ bec the goal of this presentation is not to tell you how, but to present potential issues that may come up and need to be factored in when planning a test on mobile
Add note about Morae “click” markers. Lots of moving parts to consider
Could be remote or in lab
Take out emulator, code on iphone is faked out but happens on website. Dropbox. Learnin about browser – don’t take out too much chrome so it takes away overall app-ness
Loaded on desktop and iphone, create connection – can tether. Dependin on functionality, can control desktop via iphone or vice versa. And/or it sees the iphone on the desktop.
