The aspect of halal and haram should be made a
priority in a Muslim life

Halalan thayyiban product can be interpreted as the product
that is permissible to be consumed and can give benefits to
human body
Quality
the criteria of halalan thayyiban should encompasses the
quality of hygiene and sanitary, safety, food preparation and
how it is served.
Physical and Spiritual
The concept considers that the product should be beneficial to
the body and does not cause harm for the human’s mind and
soul.
Command from Allah
Mankind should select products that have the features of halal and
thayyib (al-Baqarah, verse 168)

Concept of Halalan Thayyiban
The two term
“halalan” and
“thayyiban” carries
different meaning.
Therefore “Halalan
Thayyiban” products is any
product that is not harmful and
safe to be consumed as
underlined by the Syariah law.
The word “halal” is derived
from the Arabic word -
Simply means permitted
and allowed according to
Syariah.
“thayyib” basically
means pure or good.

6. Statement of
Commandment
in Quran
According to Islam, good food is the food that
allowed by Allah SWT that is Halalan Toyyiban.
This is noted in the Quran, Surah al-A‟raf 7:157,
which stated that;

ل ِحُي َو
ُّ
ُمُهَل
ُِّتٰبِيَّالط
ُّ
ُم ِ
رَحُي َو
ُّ
ُمِهْيَلَع
َُّثِٕىَٰٰۤبخْال
And make lawful to them the good things
and forbid them the bad things.
7. Any food that contain haram food will
promote corrupt, immoral or bad behavior
that will give rise to unexpected eternal
doom in the hereafter.
“and all that flesh which has grown from haram,
the fire (of hell) is more worthy for it.”

NARRATION IN HADITH
8. “Maka di akhir-akhir ini, timbul pula kekhuatiran
terhadap makanan dan minuman
serta barang-barang gunaan yang dikhuatiri
bercampur dengan bahan-bahan yang haram,
termasuklah kekhuatiran khusus mengenai dengan
daging-daging import
yang sedang beredar di pasaran pada masa ini.
Dalam konteks ini, sudah tiba
masanya bagi pihak-pihak berkenaan dalam
kerajaan untuk mengkaji kemungkinan
bagi mengadakan satu badan atau seumpamanya
selaku pihak yang mengawal halal
haram bahan-bahan makanan dan, termasuk
segala jenis daging serta lain-lain
bahan gunaan di negara ini. Kewajipan ini
menjadi prioriti, kerana kedudukan kita
selaku sebuah negara Islam adalah wajib
memelihara agama dan ibadat rakyat serta
penduduk yang berada di dalamnya.”

“Sebenarnya masih banyak ruang yang perlu diteroka oleh
UNISSA. Salah satu ialah bidang yang berkembang pesat
sehingga ke peringkat antarabangsa pada masa ini iaitu industri
halal. Bukankah aspek halal itu merupakan tuntutan utama
dalam Ugama Islam?
Nilai pasaran global adalah semakin meningkat dan dianggarkan
berjumlah sangat besar. Ia meningkat sebanyak 16% dari
keseluruhan industri makanan dunia dan boleh menjangkau
sehingga 20% dari perdagangan dunia dalam produk makanan
sahaja.
Oleh sebab itu, Beta menyokong penuh rancangan UNISSA
untuk menubuhkan sebuah Pusat Kecemerlangan Penyelidikan
Halal di UNISSA sebagai pemangkin kepada hasrat Beta
untuk menjadikan Negara Brunei Darussalam sebagai ‘hub
halal global’ yang akan membantu memacu pertumbuhan
ekonomi negara.
Maka untuk itu UNISSA mustahak diberikan perhatian.
Perhatian utama, termasuk oleh pihak-pihak berkenaan bagi
memikirkan pembinaan bangunan kampus kekalnya di
Temburong. Ini penting, sebagai pelengkap perkembangan,
selaku sifatnya sebuat pusat pengajian tinggi Islam bertaraf
dunia.”
13. Summary
Point 01
To conclude everything, actually the idea
behind the concept of ‘Halalan
Thayyiban’ can be simply interpreted as
the permitted product we consumed and
is beneficial to the body.
Point 02
The product must be comply with
the halal certification requirements
set by the certifying authority under
the relevant halalan thayyiban
standards.
point 03
The Quran states: “Eat what is on earth,
lawful and good” (2:168). The verse
expresses the godly command of the
words i) Halal and ii) Thayyib
