God calls men to the old paths; few make the right choice (Jer. 6:16). People, prophets, and priests were guilty of ignoring God’s word (Jer. 6:13-17). They lived to please themselves, not the Lord.
All men must seek the old paths to be right with God.
God radically revised the foundational promises of a sign, place, and people. The holy sign is now faith rather than circumcision. The holy land is the whole world rather than just Canaan. And the holy people are all who have faith in Abraham's God rather than just Abraham's physical descendants. God's grace explodes narrow human views and calls all people into his kingdom through faith.
Psalm 1:1-6 "The Way" is used a number of different ways in the bible. It is used in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Way is the way of God and obedience to Him. The church is "The Way". Jesus is "The Way". Death is "The Way of all the earth.
This document contains a summary of God's questions to Adam and Eve after they sinned and ate the forbidden fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden. It notes that God asked "Where are you?" to get Adam and Eve to confess what they had done. God then asked "Who told you that you were naked?" since they felt shame, and "Have you eaten from the tree I commanded you not to eat from?" God wanted them to acknowledge their disobedience. The summary concludes by stating God ultimately asked "What is this you have done?" to get Adam and Eve to take responsibility for their actions and seek forgiveness.

Paul defends himself before King Agrippa, recounting how he was formerly a persecutor of Christians but experienced a vision of Jesus on the road to Damascus. As a result of this encounter, God appointed Paul as a witness to call others to repent from darkness and turn to God through faith in Jesus. Paul now finds himself on trial for preaching this message. He asserts that nothing he preaches contradicts the prophets and that his sole purpose is to proclaim the word of God.
This document summarizes a Bible study on the future fulfilment of true fellowship between believers. It discusses how believers will one day be united with God and each other in eternal fellowship. Several Bible passages are cited that describe believers being called the children of God, seeing him face to face in heaven, and the earth being filled with God's glory. Ultimately, true fellowship will be fulfilled when believers are presented as the spotless bride of Christ to dwell with him forever in the holy city New Jerusalem without any tears or suffering.
Why do you think Rahab is listed among the “heroes” of faith in Hebrews 11? Do you feel that some sins in your past or present are so terrible that they can’t be forgiven or that you are unworthy to serve God? How does Rahab’s story encourage you? What was the emotional state of the people in Jericho? (Josh. 2:9, 11; 6:1) How did this confirm God’s promises in Deut. l:21, 29–31? Read carefully Josh. 2:9–13. What did Rahab know about Israel's history? How long before had the Red Sea been crossed? (Ex. l4). How long before had Sihon and Og been conquered? (Deut. 2:26-3:ll) What did Rahab specifically say she believed about the God of Israel? What is impressive about her faith? Could anyone else in Jericho have come to the same conclusions?

Genesis 12 & 15: Grace to All (Second Baptist South Campus) Spring 2020Lazarou Richard
This Bible study class examines Genesis 12 and 15, focusing on God's promises to Abram and Abram's response of faith. The lesson objective is that God gives us grace in our suffering and doubts and declares us righteous through faith in Christ alone. The study looks at how God promised to make Abram a great nation but Abram doubted due to being childless in old age. God declared that Abram's offspring would be as numerous as the stars, and Abram believed this, counting it to him as righteousness. The discussion emphasizes that we are saved by grace through faith, not works.
God gave us His Word for a purpose. God wants us to be with Him in heaven. To do this we must change from serving Satan to serving God. God gave His Word so we would know how to live our lives. God gave His Word so we would change.
Rahab the prostitute heard of the Israelites' victories and came to fear their God. Though initially only hearing of God's power, Rahab came to profess faith by claiming God rules heaven and earth. Her faith was shown through actions - hiding the Israelite spies and helping them escape, despite risk to herself. Rahab was spared when Jericho fell due to her faith expressed through works in protecting the spies.
The document outlines the fundamental beliefs of a church. It summarizes beliefs about the Bible being the inspired word of God. It also discusses beliefs about God, Jesus Christ including his virgin birth, deity, sinless life, death, resurrection and return. It discusses beliefs about the Holy Spirit, man being created by God but now fallen, salvation only coming through faith in Christ, security of believers, heaven and hell, the church, separation from false doctrines, and rejection of movements like tongues, neo-orthodoxy, neo-evangelicalism, and ecumenism.
Rahab was a harlot living in Jericho when two Israelite spies arrived seeking lodging. She hid them from pursuers and agreed to help them escape in exchange for sparing her family when Jericho was destroyed. Rahab confessed her faith in God and was converted, later being saved from destruction. She went on to marry within Israel and was listed in Jesus's genealogy, showing how God can redeem anyone from their past through faith. The story illustrates how those outside of Christ are spiritually dead and doomed without Him, but can find new life through repentance and faith in God.

The document contains several Bible passages about prayer, devotion to prayer, and the importance of prayer. It highlights that early Christians were devoted to prayer, prayer should be made for all people including those in authority, and that prayer is essential but must be done with the right heart and intentions to be effective and heard by God.
The document discusses what life will be like in heaven based on passages from the Bible. It describes that in heaven, believers will receive a new body, live in a new home prepared by God, be reunited with righteous people from the Bible, be permanently separated from sin, and get to be with God. The ultimate reward is hearing God say "well done" and inheriting the kingdom of heaven.
This document is a sermon outline from the Jackson Street Church of Christ discussing the importance of maintaining a clear conscience. It begins by welcoming attendees and asking them to turn off cell phones. The main points made are:
1) All people have sinned and can feel guilt, but through confession and faith in God our consciences can be cleared.
2) We should desire a clear conscience and can know it is clear if we pray honorably and remember others in prayer. Suffering may be required to maintain a pure conscience.
3) Our consciences are not always a safe guide, as they can become hardened or defiled. We should never violate our own conscience or cause others to st
A prophet from Judah prophesied against Jeroboam's altar and was invited by the king to eat with him, but refused due to God's command. An old prophet from Bethel lied and said God told him to bring the prophet back, who then ate with him and was killed by a lion on his way home as judgment for disobeying God's command. The story teaches that we must obey God rather than men and will all give an account to God for our actions.
I beseech you – beg, urge, encourage, appeal
By the mercies of God – compassion
Present your bodies a living sacrifice – as opposed to a sacrifice of death
Holy, Acceptable to God – pure, without spot or blemish
Your reasonable service – since Christ died for us we should live our lives for him. 2 Corinthians 5:15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
The document discusses God's promise to Abraham and how God strengthened it with an oath. It notes that God promised to bless and multiply Abraham, and that Abraham patiently waited and received what was promised. God desired to show the unchangeable nature of His promise, so He confirmed it with an oath, using two immutable things - His promise and the oath - so that believers may take strong encouragement in the hope set before them through Jesus Christ as our high priest.

The document provides instructions from God to Joshua on how to successfully lead the Israelites in taking the Promised Land of Canaan. God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous, to meditate on God's word day and night, and to remember that God will be with him. God instructs Joshua to lead the people into Canaan by following the law of Moses and trusting fully in God's promises.
God reconciles humanity to himself through Christ. Those who are in Christ are a new creation, with the old things passed away. God has given humanity the ministry of reconciliation by entrusting us with the message of reconciliation and making us ambassadors for Christ. We implore others to be reconciled to God, for Christ was made sin for our sake so that we may become the righteousness of God in him.
Joshua challenges the Israelites to choose whether they will serve the LORD or other gods. Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter and instead chose to endure ill-treatment with the people of God. The passage contrasts following the flesh versus following the Spirit, stating that those who practice deeds of the flesh will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The document discusses the Christian doctrine of predestination and whether humans have control over their future destiny. It presents views that God has predetermined a person's final destiny, though not their actions, and that God declares the end from the beginning. Several Bible passages are referenced that discuss having faith in God, seeking God, God rewarding those who diligently seek him, and God predestining and foreordaining certain things.
This document provides a summary of key biblical prophecies and doctrines from a sermon by Bro. Jimmy S. Garin. It discusses the importance of revelation to believers, explaining concepts like the seven seals and seven thunders from the book of Revelation. Several Bible passages are examined, highlighting prophecies about Israel, the end times, God's sovereignty, election, and the mystery of the gospel. In conclusion, it suggests we may be living in the time period described by the opening of the seven seals and reveals the mysteries contained within.

This document provides summaries of several Bible passages about the five-fold ministry of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. It discusses their purpose of perfecting saints, doing the work of ministry, and building up the body of Christ. It also defines the roles of each position, with apostles being missionaries who set things in order, and prophets being people who receive the word of God and foresee future events. The overall message is about the importance of these ministries in preaching the gospel and bringing people to unity in faith.

The document discusses the biblical phrase "calling on the name of the Lord" from Romans 10:13. It explores what this means by looking at other passages. Calling on the Lord's name involves believing, repenting of sins, and being baptized in Jesus' name. It requires hearing the gospel through preaching, and having faith that comes from hearing the Word of God. Paul's conversion experience is used as an example of someone who called on the Lord's name by seeing Christ, believing, fasting, praying, and being baptized to wash away his sins.
The document discusses how God speaks to His people through the Holy Spirit. It outlines that God spoke through prophets like Moses, Samuel and Isaiah in the past. Now, God speaks through His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides believers and gives them gifts like wisdom, healing and prophecy. When the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost, the disciples were able to preach boldly and perform signs. Believers can still hear God's voice today through reading the Bible, prayer, visions and the Spirit's prompting.

This is the second lesson in a series based on the Book of Hebrews chapter 6 verses 1 and 2, the elementary teachings of Christian faith.
The solid foundation is built upon the Rock. What (or who) is that Rock?
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Matthew 24:15-22.

Hebrews 4:11-13 God's Word: Produces faith, cleanses us, brings reconciliation, tells us how to be saved, blesses us, answers life's questions, solves life's problems, helps us weather life's storms, tells us what is right and wrong, produces fruit in our lives, will judge us.
Peter explains to other believers that God had shown him a vision telling him it was acceptable to preach to Gentiles. He recounts visiting Cornelius, a Gentile, where the Holy Spirit fell upon those listening before they were baptized. When questioned about this later, Peter recounts the vision and emphasizes that God had given the Gentiles the Holy Spirit, showing God had accepted them. The other believers then accept that God had granted repentance and salvation to Gentiles as well.
The document provides an overview of several stories from the book of Exodus in the Bible. It describes how the Israelites witnessed God's salvation by parting the Red Sea to allow them to escape Pharaoh's army. It then discusses how the Israelites were baptized into Moses and compares this to Christian baptism today. Several times the Israelites grumbled against God and Moses for lack of food or water, showing their short memories, until God provided for their needs each time. God promises to make the Israelites his special people if they obey his covenant. The Israelites later rebel and worship a golden calf, almost causing God to destroy them, until Moses intercedes. God punishes the sinners and the Israelites then willingly contribute materials and

The foolishness of preaching: A testing look at the Reason for PreachingRory Hall
God has provided only one method of salvation - the foolishness of preaching. Throughout history, God used preachers like Noah to warn people and call them to repentance. All preaching that can save must be grounded in the word of God as revealed in scripture. From Moses to Christ to the apostles, God's word as contained in the Bible is the standard by which all preaching is to be measured. Faith comes by hearing the word of God preached.
This document contains a summary of Jesus' teachings on forgiveness, fasting, and storing up treasures in heaven rather than on earth from the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. It also includes additional context and commentary from other biblical passages. The key points are:
1) Jesus teaches that forgiveness is necessary to receive forgiveness from God and that true fasting involves humble prayer rather than outward displays of piety.
2) Fasting is presented as a spiritual discipline that should be accompanied by righteous living, not just physical deprivation.
3) True treasures are spiritual rewards stored in heaven, not earthly possessions that can be lost or stolen. Believers are called to focus on eternal rather than temporal things.
The document discusses different Christian denominations' views on salvation - Baptist view salvation as by grace through faith alone, Catholic view works as justifying faith, Church of Christ view requires belief and baptism. It then examines how to properly interpret scripture by distinguishing between time periods - the "time past" focused on God's promises to Israel, while the "but now" includes Gentiles. During Jesus' ministry and Acts 1-7, the early church's message was directed to Israel to repent, but they fell so salvation could come to the Gentiles.
This document provides an overview of the three angels' messages from Revelation 14. It begins by discussing the first angel's message to fear God and give glory to Him, as the hour of His judgment has come. It then examines the meaning of Babylon from Revelation 14:8 and traces its origins back to the city of Babylon in Genesis. The document suggests Babylon represents false worship and religions that conflict with God's law. It concludes by promoting keeping God's commandments in preparation for His judgment.
The document discusses the origins and significance of the Sabbath in both the Old and New Testaments. It notes that while the Sabbath was a sign between God and the Israelites, it was never commanded for Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In the New Testament, Jesus' death fulfilled the law and ordinances, including observance of days like the Sabbath. Early Christians met on Sundays to break bread and preach, establishing it as their day of worship in light of Jesus' resurrection on Sunday. The Sabbath ultimately signifies Israel's promised rest in the millennial kingdom.
1. Peter and John heal a lame beggar at the temple gate, astonishing the onlookers.
2. In response, Peter preaches to the crowd, emphasizing that it was through faith in Jesus, not their own power, that the man was healed. He urges them to repent and turn to God.
3. Peter tells them they disowned the Holy One, Jesus, but God raised him from the dead as foretold by the prophets. He reminds them that through Abraham all peoples will be blessed.

This document discusses the biblical story of Esther and draws parallels to encourage speaking up for one's faith. It notes that Esther was young and reluctant but faced a choice to either risk death by going to the king or do nothing and face certain death later. Similarly, it encourages readers facing decisive moments to appeal to God for strength first before appealing to people in authority, as Esther prepared herself before speaking to the king. The overall message is one of empowering readers to boldly live out their faith.
By God’s mercy & grace, Christ offered the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He arose after three days (Mk. 16:6). His resurrection is the foundation of our faith in Him.
Mark 16 shows:
Vv. 1-8 He is risen! We have hope!
Vv. 9-14 He is risen! We have evidence!
Vv. 15-20 He is risen! We have the Great Commission!
God sustains homes and nations who trust Him (Psa. 127). Selecting a mate is the second most crucial decision in life after first submitting to Christ for salvation. We must learn to do our part in selecting a mate and trust God to do His part.
The consequences of choosing a mate are lifelong - and affect our eternal destiny.
What would you do if ordered to violate your religious convictions on pain of death? What if you were told to take an abortion pill? Watch pornography? Worship Mary?
This is what happened to Mordecai, Esther's cousin (Est. 3:1-15).
There will come a time in our life when we will face a challenge to our faith. Will our convictions lead us to take a stand? Do we trust in God's providence to get us through?
This lesson looks at:
1. God’s people must be resolute in their conviction.
2. Avoid that which God hates.
3. Trust in God’s providence.
What would happen if the president asked his wife to parade herself in front of a crowd of world leaders…who were drunk? What if she refused? And he divorced her? This is essentially what happened with Xerxes and Vashti.
In the search for a new queen, a young Jewish girl takes center stage and sets an example for young women everywhere--and truly for all people. She is moral. She is submissvie. She is beautiful in character.
This lesson looks at the true beauty of Esther.
Hal evidences 6-bible-meetmanneeds-4-24-2012hebronlane
God is our most basic need. He reveals Himself and His will in the Bible (Ecc. 12:13). The Bible is truth and fits man's unchanging needs: God is, the Bible is God's word, Jesus Christ is God's Son, Man's purpose is to love God and his fellowman (1 Pet. 1:23).
If the Bible outdated and irrelevant? God and His truth are never outdated (Psa. 90:1). The dangers of sin do not change. The problem of sin and evil are resolved by the Bible, NOT by science, medicine, or technology.
Two thousand five hundred years ago one of the most amazing dramas of all time unfolded in the heart of the world's super power. A young girl named Hadassah became queen. Her adopted father pushed her to endanger her life for the life of her people. Hadassah was reluctant. Her settled determination became, “If I perish, I perish” (Est. 4:16).
The book of Esther tells one of the most moving stories of all time. Some believe it is fictional. We know it is historic. It inspires us: To have faith in God; To know God is in control; To take a stand for what is right - for God’s people & for His kingdom; To think we might be in the “kingdom for such a time as this.”
This is the first of several lessons from Esther and will look at:
1. Background.
2. Overview of chapter 1.
3. Lessons from chapter 1.
This document provides historical background information on different religious and political groups mentioned in the New Testament, including the Pharisees, Sadducees, lawyers, Zealots, and Herodians. It discusses their beliefs, roles, and actions portrayed in the New Testament, such as the Pharisees making their own laws and opposing Jesus, while the Sadducees denied resurrection and angels. The document argues these groups represent different approaches to nationalism and resistance/compromise with Roman rule that still manifest today.
The persistent unfaithfulness of a nation stirs God’s wrath (Eze. 14:12-20). Israel was involved in idolatry. In God’s providence, He moved against the land (famine, sword, pestilence). It was so bad, that three righteous men like Noah, Daniel, and Job could not deliver it; they could only deliver themselves.
Has our nation reached the point of no return? It has been in persistent rebellion and drifting away from God for a long time. It may not be delivered. However, let us be righteous men and women: 1. To honor God; 2. Do what we can to influence others; 3. Deliver our own souls.
This lesson examines three righteous men—Noah, Daniel, and Job—and notes how they serve as role models for us.
Moses bid farewell to Israel by reminding them of the Law of God. He reviewed the Ten Commandments (Deut. 5:1-22). Then he went on to cover various ordinances of the Law (Deut. 6-26).
He put before them a choice between life and death (Deut. 30:11-20). If they obeyed, there was life. If they disobeyed, there was death.
The choice is that simple for us: life or death through obedience or disobedience.
This lesson examines Moses’ words and makes application of these principles from the New Testament: (1) God’s command is for us; (2) God’s command is the difference between life/good and death/evil; (3) Choose life.
We must take heed to what we have learned in the past (Heb. 2:1). There is a danger in drifting away from the truth (Heb. 2:2, 3). Therefore, we must be reminded of the things we already know (1 Cor. 4:17).
One thing we need to remind ourselves, and teach to our neighbors, is the basic truth about New Testament Christianity. There is a lot of false teaching out there and people have the wrong concept (Matt. 7:15-20). It is our duty to expose it and teach them the truth (Eph. 5:11).
This lesson will notice that New Testament Christians: (1) Believed in Christ; (2) Submitted to the plan of salvation; (3) Were just Christians; (4) Were not part of any denominations.
Today, death is closer for us all. Time is on a one-way march. Each day we live brings us closer to the end of our life. We have less time to prepare for eternity. Since we have less time, each day and the actions of each day become more important.
We need to renew our mind so that our daily life is devoted to God (Rom. 12:1, 2). We must have our priorities straight. Let us avoid distractions and grow stronger day by day; offering ourselves as a living sacrifice.
This study covers two points:
(1) not conformed, but transformed;
(2) renewing of your mind.
Jesus healed ten lepers, but only one was thankful (Lk. 17:11-19). The majority were not thankful, including His own people. There is much we take for granted and for which we are ungrateful.
Let us be grateful for the blessing given by God. We depend on Him for our existence (Acts 17:28). He gives us every good thing (Jas. 1:17). Above all, He provides salvation (1 Jn. 5:11).
We can learn lessons from the account of the lepers: obedience brings blessings, Christ has the ability to cleanse, few show gratitude for God’s blessings.
There are many evil influences in the world (1 Cor. 15:33). False doctrines are believed and practiced by many. False friends lead us astray and into sin. False religions are spreading and condemning the souls of men.
The children of God are to be an influence for good (Matt. 5:13-16). We must live righteously and teach the truth. When we do this, the result is the glory of God.
This sermon looks at our duty to be salt and light and how we must persevere or suffer the consequences.
When we look at men, we can get discouraged. We often see the corruption of leaders. The sinfulness of society is overwhelming. It is sad, but we also see weak Christians.
Let us stand in awe of the Lord Jesus Christ (Rev. 5:12). We ought to appreciate Him for His wisdom, reverence Him for His holiness, and love Him for His mercy and sacrifice.
Premillennialism teaches that Jesus failed to establish His Kingdom when He came in the first century. The idea is that He could not establish His Kingdom by persuasion, but will do so by force. This is odd since Jesus said He could do so by force the first time (Matt. 26:53; cf. 2 Kgs. 19:23).
The Bible teaches the Kingdom was established long ago (Col. 1:13). Christ is King of kings (1 Tim. 6:15). Christians are citizens of the Kingdom (1 Pet. 2:9). The Kingdom will stand until the Judgment (1 Cor. 15:23, 24). We can enter it now through the New Birth (Jn. 3:3-5).
This lesson will show Premillennialism to be false regarding Armageddon and the Reign of Christ.
Premillennialism is a theory that dishonors God and undermines faith in Him. At its heart is the idea that God was unable to do what He intended to do at the first coming of Christ. It tosses the minds of men about and breeds anxiety and uncertainty.
The Bible presents a different picture about God’s plan. Jesus sacrificed Himself for the church as part of God’s eternal purpose (Eph. 5:25; 3:9-11). He will come back in Judgment (2 Pet. 3:9-13). Hence, we must live faithfully (2 Pet. 3:14-18).
This lesson will expose three falsehoods promoted by Premillennialists: the Last Days, the Rapture, and the Tribulation.
Praise Jehovah the Creator and Sustainer of all things (Psa. 100). The one true God is revealed in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We can know God’s character and purpose.
The Godhead is a challenge for finite minds to comprehend. This lesson helps us better grasp the nature of God and who possesses deity.
Hal god 1-true-jesuschrist_god-1-28-2011hebronlane
The document discusses the deity of Jesus Christ through several biblical passages. It explains that Matthew 28:18-20 reveals one God in three persons - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. John's gospel proves that Jesus claimed to be God by saying "I am" in several passages, and his miracles confirm this claim. Colossians 1:15-18 and Hebrews 1 show that Jesus created and sustains all things, and the angels worship him as God. Finally, John 3:16 says that Jesus' role was to die for humanity's sins. The document invites believers to submit to Jesus Christ for salvation.
We are all moving this year. We are either moving toward the Lord or away from Him. Lot moved toward Sodom and away from the Lord. He was basically a good man who made a poor decision based on wrong priorities. The consequences that followed were dire, destroying his life.
Let us take care in our moves. We are basically good people, but we need to weigh our decisions in light of truth so we can avoid destructive consequences.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
