This document provides an overview of how geography and geographic information systems (GIS) are used at Midland Heart, a housing association. It discusses that GIS is a tool that can be used to analyze geographic data and identify "hotspots". Midland Heart uses both internal asset data and open data from sources like the census and Ordnance Survey in their GIS. They receive operational and strategic requests to use GIS for asset management and research purposes. While open data provides opportunities, there are also challenges around where to start, what adds value, and addressing data protection concerns when sharing data across organizations.
