We’re having a
heart-to-heart with women!
The following presentation is intended for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended to be
construed as medical advice. Please consult your physician regarding your heart health issues and questions.
The mission of The Heart2Heart Foundation is to educate, support and advocate for
women's heart health, thereby affecting not only their lives, but those of their families.
The Foundation is an all-volunteer organization governed by a Board of Directors consisting
of both lay people and health care professionals who share the common burden to not only
bring awareness to the disease but to make clinical resources available to those at high-risk
of developing heart disease.
A few quick facts!
•

Heart disease is the #1 killer of American women

•

Heart disease kills more women than ALL forms of cancer combined

•

Heart disease can permanently damage your heart— and your life

•

If heart disease is not treated, serious complications can develop

•

Most women do not know that heart disease is their own greatest health risk

•

Heart disease is largely preventable

•

Women can take action to protect their hearts

•

Heart disease is a “now” problem

•

“Later” may be too late
Year One: Goals & Achievements
•

To establish a non-profit organization in the State of South Carolina committed
to raising awareness about heart disease and educate women regarding the
prevention of the disease.

•

To acquire the Official Letter of Determination from the US Department of
Treasury 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Service code.

•

To increase awareness about the number one killer of women, and men, in the
United States and to educate them about prevention.

•

To provide clinical resources to women at high risk of developing heart disease.

Because of the critical need in our community and the outpouring of support we have
experienced, within our first year, we have distributed free educational materials to
approximately 1,000 women and received our tax exempt status within one month of filing!
Year Two: Goals & Objectives


To be approved as a Community Partner with the National Heart Blood and Lung Institute
(NHBLI) with The Heart Truth ® (in progress!)



To increase our awareness and education events during Heart Month.



To begin a dialogue with city, county, state and national leaders about the issue of heart
health in our tri-county area and solicit their commitment to raise awareness.



To increase our outreach and programs in the tri-county area.



To increase the number of screenings in the tri-county area to include at least 10
scholarships for the complete risk assessments each month.



To launch a new educational series for children that can be taught in settings, such as
the public library or children’s museum, while their parents and grandparents are
learning more about heart health.



To begin developing a program through which we could also provide scholarships to cover
expenses for cardiac rehabilitation not covered by private insurers or Medicaid.
