Gun Control
Alexandra Fiore
My research topic is...
My research topic is gun control. Gun control is the regulation of the sale and
use of firearms. I will mainly be focusing on our current gun regulations, the
NRA, and mass shootings. I want to investigate what changes are being made
and what is being done to prevent these shootings from continuing.
History of gun control
The issue at hand is that mass shootings/gun killings in general have been on
the rise for many years. Some say that the issue started with the assassination
of president John F. Kennedy. This event brought awareness to the lack of
control over the sale and use of firearms.
Individuals involved in gun control
1. David Hogg, survivor of the Parkland school shooting / gun control activist
2. Oliver North, president of the NRA
3. Nancy Pelosi, speaker of House of Representatives
Questions I have about gun control
1. What is the NRA doing to prevent people from getting a gun so easily?
2. Why are certain guns laws only passes in certain states?
3. How long will it take for these laws to be put into place?
4. Why is it legal for people to buy guns from a private owner?
A viewpoint about gun control that I
disagree with...
The article “Why We Can’t Agree on Gun Control” by Jen Zamzow talks about
how America is too divided to come together to make changes on the gun
control issue. I do agree with her that it is almost nearly impossible to make a
change when you have 87% of democrats supporting stricter gun laws, and
only 31% of republicans, but I think it is still possible. The issue at hand is
costing many people their life, so I believe they will put aside their differences
in hopes of less people dying at the hand of a gun.
