Food groups and the food pyramid
are guides to help you choose the right
and amounts of food to eat.
Nutrition experts have grouped
and identified foods as go, glow, and
grow foods.
1. Energy- giving food or go food. These are
the foods that give the body energy for work
and play.
Examples: rice, bread, oatmeal, root crops such
as potato, sweet potato (kamote), cassava, taro
2. Body- building food or grow food. These
are the foods that make children grow and help
build strong muscles and bones.
Examples: meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk,
seafood, legumes, beans
3. Regulating food or glow food. These foods
increase the body resistance to diseases and
infections.
Examples: green leafy vegetables such as
malunggay, saluyot, kangkong, camote tops;
yellow vegetables such as carrots, squash; fresh
fruits and juice.
