Trend analysis is used to spot patterns in data over time. The document analyzes past data on Indian gaming revenues from 1999 to 2011 to predict gaming revenues for 2012 using trend analysis. It calculates the trend line equation and predicts that Indian gaming revenues for 2012 will be 34.58 billion US dollars based on the historical trend. A graph is included showing the predicted value fits within the existing revenue growth pattern from 1999 to 2011.
2. TREND ANALYSIS
Trend Analysis is the practice of collecting information and attempting to spot a pattern,
or trend, in the information. In some fields of study, the term "trend analysis" has more formally-
defined meanings.
In statistics, trend analysis often refers to techniques for extracting an underlying pattern of
behaviour in a time series which would otherwise be partly or nearly completely hidden by noise.
A simple description of these techniques is trend estimation, which can be undertaken within a
formal regression analysis
Although trend analysis is often used to predict future events, it could be used to estimate
uncertain events in the past such as predicting the growth of online gaming in 2012.
We have the past data of Year 1999 to 2011 Indian Gaming Revenues in US Dollars.
So, using Trend Analysis we have to predict for the year 2012.
4. Calulations
∑Y = (N a ) + (b ∑X X) ; N is the no. of Values
∑XY = a ∑X + (b ∑X X)
On solving the equations, we find that:
a= 7.56
b= 1.93
Now, we have the equation of a straight line: Y = a + b X
Hence, Y14 = a + b X14
Y14 = 34.58
Hence, using the trend analysis, we can predict the sales of Indian Gaming Revenues for 2012
as 34.58 Billion US$.
