A listing pattern organize ideas using
enumeration. Unlike a chronological pattern, listing
does not require the items to be sequenced
chronologically because it does not have the element
of time. It basically presents a series of items (facts,
examples, features, reasons, and tips) that support a
main idea. Make sure to pay attention to these
essential aspects when writing down your notes.
Enumeration is a rhetorical
device that occurs when a writer
chooses to list out items, events,
ideas, or other parts of a
story/setting.

EXAMPLES
Example #1:
There are several things you need to bring
along with you each time you come to class. First,
you should have paper. Furthermore, you need a
pen to take notes with. Moreover, you need to have
your textbooks. Also, be sure to bring your
completed homework. In addition, it is good to have
a dictionary. Finally, you ought to have a book bag
to carry everything in.
Example #2:
Among such as deal in multitudes of words, none are comparable
to the sober deliberate talker, who proceed with much thought and
caution, make his preface, branches out into several digressions, find a
hint that put him in mind of another story, which he promises to tell
you when this is done; comes back regularly to his subject, cannot
readily call to mind some person’s name, holding his head, complains
of his memory; the whole company all this while in suspense; at length
says, it is no matter, and so goes on. And, to crown the business, it
perhaps proves at last a story the company has heard fifty times before;
or, at best, some insipid adventure of the relater.
Example #3:
Nintendo is a Japanese company that has many well known
products. First, there are the video games, in particular, Donkey Kong
and Super Mario These were big international hits almost thirty years
ago, and they are still popular. When they came out, they were
played on big video machines. Then Nintendo also invented the
Game Boy. This was the first hand-held video game player. Another
successful product is the Wii in the Wii games, it's not just the
picture on the screen on that moves. The player moves, too
Example #4:
Drawing is all about taking the time to master
each step. Besides, mastering the art of drawing
doesn’t happen in a day. Furthermore, it’s a skill
that takes daily practice as well as dedication to
hone your craft. It’s also important not to burn
yourself out, but you need to stick with it.
