The document discusses the town of Åre, Sweden and its vision to become a carbon neutral tourism destination by 2020. Åre has over 200 member businesses that rely on tourism. Their common vision focuses on unique year-round experiences, welcoming all guests, and environmental responsibility. Åre aims to measure carbon emissions in real-time and offset emissions through local sustainable practices like using only locally-sourced food and allowing cattle to freely graze. Their goal is for the town to absorb more carbon than it emits, especially in the summer tourism season. Åre's business group views achieving carbon neutrality as both a technological and financial challenge but sees cooperation between local farms and businesses as key to meeting their sustainability goals.

5 min guide to sustainability: Go green - Save money and the planetAnders Lindgren
Going Green – is it just “greenwashing”? Do organizations prefer to just talk about being green rather than really living green? Let’s be pragmatic. The majority of companies do not embrace Green livingprimarily for ideal reasons. It has always been about cost savings. In the form of reduced expenditures or efficiency gains. Nothing wrong with that approach. Actually it’s the core idea of sustainable development. Saving money and the environment at the same time.
The green transition is changing jobs, skills, and local economies. It poses new challenges but also opportunities, both of which will differ across places within countries. This report, Job Creation and Local Economic Development 2023: Bridging the Great Green Divide, provides novel evidence on those risks and opportunities across regions in 30 OECD countries. It examines the geography of green-task and polluting jobs and examines the impact of the green transition on gender and socioeconomic inequality by identifying the characteristics of workers in those jobs. Furthermore, the report tracks the progress regions have made in greening their labour market over the past decade. The report provides actionable policy recommendations that can help deliver a green and just transition. It looks at past and other ongoing labour market transitions and identifies local success drivers that can help communities prepare for and manage the impact of the green transition. Finally, it points out actions for ramping up and adapting local skills development systems to meet the demands of the green transition and equip their workforce with the right skills for the future.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Builder.ai Founder Sachin Dev Duggal's Strategic Approach to Create an Innova...Ramesh Iyer
In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

“Å
re has always had a good supply
of motivated entrepreneurs and
innovators. Determined peo-
ple who have understood Åre’s
potential and wanted to further
development,” says Lars-Börje ‘Bulan’ Eriksson.
As the managing director of Åreföretagarna, Åre’s
business group, he has a key role in implementing
the vision for 2020.
Åreföretagarna has more than 200 members
who have one thing in common: they need tour-
ism to run their businesses. They have formu-
lated a common vision in which ‘environmental
responsibility’ will be one of three focus areas for
the destination in the next decade. The other two
are ‘unique experiences, year round’ and ‘Åre’s
welcome knows no bounds’.
“In order to meet our target, we must be clear
down to the level of the individual. We have to
communicate correctly all the way out to our
guests,” says Eriksson. There has been no lack of
ideas in work on this vision. ‘Taste Åre’ is an estab-
lished concept that is within the framework of the
vision’s environmental focus.
“WE WANT TO connect local farmers with our
service companies. In the best of worlds, we would
only consume locally produced foodstuffs and
avoid diversions that cost time and carbon emis-
sions,” says Eriksson. He believes that cooperation
can be significantly better than it is at present, the
dialogue between restaurants and farmers can be
both clearer and create greater profitability than it
does today.
“Meanwhile, there are local businesses that
have already taken this one step further. The Fjäll-
bete company has removed supplementary feed
like cattle cake and produces meat solely by letting
the animals graze in Åre’s green valleys.
To complete the cycle, the next stage – on
paper – is to use waste and convert by-products to
energy.
“Our challange is to create the carbon neutral
destination and we have just come into contact
with a supplier to provide us with a web-based
tool that we can use for real time measurement of
carbon emissions. It is highly probable that the
destination absorbs carbon during the summer,
while the results are worse in the winter. If we can
visualise the challenge in this way, I think we have
started on the right road. We are not just talking
about a technological challenge, but also a finan-
cial one.” !
