2. MNIB ’S MANDATE
The MNIB was established in 1973 as a State
Trading Enterprise engaged in the marketing and
trading of agricultural products. MNIB’s Mandate
as enshrined in the Act establishing the Board (Act
40 1973 as amended) ….. is to Market Produce of
Grenada not already marketed under any other
statutory authority …. And or matters connected
therewith. In 1979 its mandate was expanded to
include the import and distribution of “Specified
Imports”.

COLOUR Dark bluish green to pale green leaves depending on variety
VISUAL APPEARANCE A firm well-formed compact heart of leaves with max. 3-4 large outer leaves; minorsoil
deposits allowable on outer leaves only. Clean cut stem. Free from foreign matter.
SENSORY Crisp juicy leaves; slightly sweet flavour; free fromforeign
and 'off ' smells ortastes.
SHAPE Round to oval head.
SIZE 1.5 - 2.0 kg net head weight as perrequirements.
MATURITY Heavy for size; no open or very whitehearts.
MAJOR DEFECTS
INSECTS With evidence of liveinsects.
DISEASES With evidence of fungal or bacterial rots (e.g. bacterial soft rot, Alternaria rot, black rot).
With evidence of discolouration or disfigurement due to viruses (e.g.mosaic)
PHYSICAL /PEST DAMAGE With unhealed cuts, holes, splits or crushed areas from physical or pest damage.
With >2 broken or missing outerleaves.
With >3 outer leaves with cuts and tears >10cm or holes bruising, crushed areas >10sq cm.
TEMPERATURE INJURY With limp, wilted or shrivelled leaves(dehydration).
With discoloured, water-soaked areas (freezingdamage).
PHYSIOLOGICAL DISORDER With yellow outer leaves (age, ethyleneexposure).
With tip browning of innerleaves.
MINOR DEFECTS
PHYSICAL/PEST DAMAGE With superficial bruising >2sq cm in innerleaves.
PHYSILOGICAL DISORDER With slight tip browning of outer leaves>2mm.
SKINMARKS/BLEMISHES With healed scars >2sqcm.

Total minor defects (outside allowance limit) must not exceed 15% ofconsignment.
