Ancient Greece was located in Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. It had a mountainous and hilly landscape with rocky soil that made most of the land unsuitable for farming. As a result, the Ancient Greek economy relied on agriculture like grapes, olives, and limited wheat and barley, as well as herding sheep and goats. They also fished abundantly in the Mediterranean Sea. Due to growing population and limited agricultural land, the Greeks engaged in trade across the Mediterranean and established colonies in new lands.
