This document discusses homelessness and raising awareness of the issue. It provides statistics showing that street homelessness and households classified as homeless have risen in recent years. Homelessness is described as an extreme form of housing need that includes living in temporary housing or with friends. The document outlines that homelessness is a complex issue caused by many factors, and affects people's health, education, and employment. It introduces The Cyrenians organization, which helps homeless people through emergency intervention, stabilization, and progression programs. The document proposes a campaign using augmented reality and posters to help change perceptions and raise awareness of homelessness among young adults.

Editor's Notes
I wanted to choose between 2 campaigns;Occupy Wall StreetThe CyreniansOccupy Wall StreetLast semester as part of our ‘human body’ project I decided to study into the occupy movement. In order to fully engage with project I met with the protesters. I asked them a few questions, got them to write a few sentences and generally got talking to them, finding out their reason behind protesting. I then used this information as a foundation for my 10 final images of the project.I was initially going to choose to the Occupy Wall Street campaign again as I had already worked with them before and I have developed a great interest into the campaign. But due to the protesters being moved from monument at Newcastle I wouldn’t be able to work as closely with them as I did last time. The CyreniansI had never heard of The Cyrenians until the start of this semester. I came across the thrift boutique while in Eldon Square and as I often shop in charity shops I went into the boutique. On the way in I saw they were looking for volunteers and as was looking too help out in a charity shop anyway I asked for an application form to apply. When I went on to their website I began to look into what their organisation was doing and how they were helping people around Newcastle.Because I enjoyed working alongside people so much last semester I decided that I wanted to base my project on The Cyrenians and hopefully be able to interact and work with them. Whilst trying to create something that may help raise awareness and help the organisation
What is homelessness?Homelessness is the most extreme form of housing need. But it isn’t just about people sleeping on the streets. There are many more people in England who do not have a home despite not actually sleeping rough. Some have to put up with living in temporary accommodation where they have an uncertain future. Unable to afford alternative options, others have to endure overcrowding and unsanitary conditions. Having a home is about more than just having a roof over your head.
People end up homeless for a wide variety of reasons:• When relationships break down, often one person is forced to move out without anywhere to go.• Private tenancies frequently last only for six months or a year, and when they come to an end people may face homelessness due to a lack of other affordable options.• When faced with an abusive home life, many children decide to run away. After a reduction in or loss of income due to health reasons or unemployment, or a sharp rise in interest rates, a person may find themselves unable to keep up mortgage repayments. Some people on low incomes who rely on housing benefit to pay their rent can face eviction because of errors and delays in the benefit being paid.
Homelessness is still viewed by many as the result of personal failings. But homelessness is caused by a complex interplay between a person's personal circumstances, and adverse 'structural' factors, outside that person's direct control. These problems can build up over years leading to the final crisis when a person may become homeless.Sophie MaxwellHad problems with her family and left home at the age of 16Lived in 6 different hostels in Sheffield… Got kicked out of a few of them leaving her on the streetAge 14-16 didn’t go to school therefore didn’t get GCSE’s

For the online side of my concept my initial idea is to create a augmented reality show room that will hopefully interest people and to help raise overall awareness. I want to create 3d models of homeless people that would only be able to seen through a electronic device such as an ipad. The thinking behind this is that many people do not realise about those individuals who have to sleep on the street. With this augmented reality campaign people would not initially see anything until they view it through the device. The ipad, for example, would be a window into a world that was previously unseen. The offline side would be to create some sort of poster to advertise the augmented reality campaign. It would inform people about it and explain what it is and what it is for.
