Grasshoppers live in many places around the world like grasslands and gardens. They eat plants like grass, grains, and crops. Grasshoppers have predators like mantises, lizards, and toads. Female grasshoppers lay eggs in the ground that hatch into nymphs in 20-30 days before becoming adults. There are over 18,000 kinds of grasshoppers that vary in size up to 4 1/2 inches long, and they do not have ears.
