This paper examines in close relation two fields of growing importance: model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and natural language processing (NLP). System models provide a structured description of engineering data, whose inherent semantics often remains hard to explore. Natural language understanding, (i.e., the machine analysis of texts produced by humans) an important field of NLP, focuses on semantic text comprehension but cannot directly account for structured information sources.

This thesis explored using construction grammar and ontologies in conversational systems. The author built two early experimental systems using these techniques. Construction grammar represents language as constructions pairing form and meaning. Ontologies allow for more explicit semantics compared to databases. The author developed a stemmer called UEA-Lite and a system called KIA that incorporated construction grammar, ontologies, and machine learning to understand and respond to natural language.

creating enhanced access to our Oral History collection. The Oral History Project at Miami University contains over 100 interviews pertaining to experiences at the University, with transcripts for over half of

The poster will describe the process of batch processing transcripts using OpenCalais, a web service that automates the creation of metadata for content using natural language processing and machine learning, and displaying both the transcripts and metadata in the content management system Drupal using various modules. We will discuss the results from the comparison of machine generated
and human generated metadata in this project and the benefits and concerns surrounding both methods. Future project developments will also be included.

Collaborative Ontology Building Project

Searching Repositories of Web Application Models
Project repositories are a central asset in software development, as they preserve the technical knowledge gathered in past development activities. However, locating relevant information in a vast project repository is problematic, because it requires manually tagging projects with accurate metadata, an activity which is time consuming and prone to errors and omissions. This paper investigates the use of classical Information Retrieval techniques for easing the discovery of useful information from past projects. Differently from approaches based on textual search over the source code of applications or on querying structured metadata, we propose to index and search the models of applications, which are available in companies applying Model-Driven Engineering practices. We contrast alternative index structures and result presentations, and evaluate a prototype implementation on real-world experimental data.

4. Editor incorporates agreed upon concepts and relationships into a single ontology, resolving any structural issues.
5. Representatives review the aligned ontology and provide feedback.
6. Editor incorporates final changes to produce the aligned ontology for use by all groups.
The goal is to understand each perspective, identify areas of overlap and conflict, and work together iteratively

Ontology is defined as the formal explicit specification of a shared conceptualization. It has been widely used in almost all fields especially artificial intelligence, data mining, and semantic web etc. It is constructed using various set of resources. Now it has become a very important task to improve the efficiency of ontology construction. In order to improve the efficiency, need an automated method of building ontology from database resource. Since manual construction is found to be erroneous and not up to the expectation, automatic construction of ontology from database is innovated. Then the construction rules for ontology building from relational data sources are put forward. Finally, ontology for �automated building of ontology from relational data sources� has been implemented
Collaborative Ontology Building Project
The document proposes a collaborative ontology building project (COB) that uses a multi-agent approach to facilitate distributed ontology editing and discovery. Key challenges addressed include making ontology editing easy for non-experts, enabling iterative ontology evolution through expert and agent cooperation, and facilitating ontology mining from distributed and dynamic data sources on the web. The proposed system design involves an ontology repository, various human and software agents that contribute to and validate ontologies, and techniques for tasks like ontology alignment and redundancy/conflict checking.
Searching Repositories of Web Application Models
Project repositories are a central asset in software development, as they preserve the technical knowledge gathered in past development activities. However, locating relevant information in a vast project repository is problematic, because it requires manually tagging projects with accurate metadata, an activity which is time consuming and prone to errors and omissions. This paper investigates the use of classical Information Retrieval techniques for easing the discovery of useful information from past projects. Differently from approaches based on textual search over the source code of applications or on querying structured metadata, we propose to index and search the models of applications, which are available in companies applying Model-Driven Engineering practices. We contrast alternative index structures and result presentations, and evaluate a prototype implementation on real-world experimental data.

Here are the steps I would suggest for aligning the ontologies:
1. Representatives present their ontology and explain key concepts and relationships.
2. Editor records all concepts and relationships on a whiteboard in a concept map format without evaluation.
3. Representatives discuss each concept and relationship to reach agreement on meaning and resolve any conflicts or ambiguities.
4. Editor incorporates agreed upon concepts and relationships into a single ontology, resolving any structural issues.
5. Representatives review the aligned ontology and provide feedback.
6. Editor incorporates final changes to produce the aligned ontology for use by all groups.
The goal is to understand each perspective, identify areas of overlap and conflict, and work together iteratively

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
