Matthew founded ATEL to help people with disabilities live independently after suffering amputations and burns in an accident. He later founded GrandCare to bring an elderly monitoring system from the US to the UK. The system allows elderly people to live safely at home through sensors, alerts, medication reminders, activity monitoring, and social features like video calls. Charlie created the original system after a family emergency to develop a user-friendly home safety solution.

Presentation by Mike Kenny, Associate Commercial Director, Innovation Agency: Digital Innovation: the art of the possible on Wednesday 13 March 2019 at Haydock Park Racecourse.
More and more older adults want to find ways to make their next move their last — which makes an impact on the marketability of both 55+ and senior living communities. Universal design — design and programs that facilitate aging in place — is a typical approach to helping create a forever home.
While universal design offers builders and senior living providers the opportunity to create a truly ageless living environment, positioning these features to each unique target market is the key to driving sales in a competitive market. Join us to learn how to market universal design from experts who’ve been serving older adults for a combined 40+ years!

Health Education on prevention of hypertensionRadhika kulvi
Hypertension is a chronic condition of concern due to its role in the causation of coronary heart diseases. Hypertension is a worldwide epidemic and important risk factor for coronary artery disease, stroke and renal diseases. Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels and is sufficient to maintain tissue perfusion during activity and rest. Hypertension is sustained elevation of BP. In adults, HTN exists when systolic blood pressure is equal to or greater than 140mmHg or diastolic BP is equal to or greater than 90mmHg. The

1. Matthew’s Story
Matthew is the Group Director of Sales and
Founder of ATEL and GrandCare UK.
He founded the company ATEL following a tragic
car accident which resulted in both legs being
amputated above the knee and 65% third degree
burns to his body.
After more than 130 operations, Matthew’s only
opportunity to live independently was to design
and build a house with environmental controls
and assistivea and adaptive technology. He
wanted to use this experience and his technology
background to help others with disabilities live in
the comfort and dignity they deserve.
Matthew developed ATEL into a successful
businesswhichnotonlygivesadultswithlearning
and physical disabilities the opportunity to live
independently, it also reduces the overall cost of
providing care and support for local authorities
and care providers.

About
Matthew and his team constantly source new
products and innovations which they feel can
deliver a real benefit to people’s lives. In 2012 he
came across such a system created by Charlie
Hillman in the US. Their shared vision that
people have the right to empower themselves
with enabling technologies to stay healthy, safe,
and happy at home resulted in a new company –
GrandCare Systems Limited, bringing this world
class product to the UK.
“GrandCare envisions a future where
everyone is able to remain independent
and connected to family and friends
through elderly home care technology”
Finally I would like to thank the board and the Inspired
Group staff for their hard work in 2013 and we look
forward to building on this success in 2014.
Charlie’s Story
Intheearly1990sCharliewasshakenbyaclosecallwithhis
great aunt Clara – When he stopped in to check on her he
discovered she had her windows open due to smoke and a
strong burning smell. Upon investigating it was discovered
that there were flames coming from the furnace.
Charlie knew there were many others who could benefit
from a user-friendly system to help keep their loved ones
safe. Unable to find a solution on the market, he began to
design his own. Years later the widespread availability of
the Internet and wireless sensors helped to turn Charlie’s
early vision into a modern reality. He began developing
the GrandCare System in 2003, beta-tested the product in
2005, and brought an early version of GrandCare to market
in late 2006
“Together Matthew and Charlie share a
vision to enhance individuals lives, enabling
them to stay independent longer through
the power of technology...

GrandCare works with a range of small wireless sensors
which can be triggered as a person moves around the
house, opens a door or the medication cupboard.
We also have smart switches, these can be used
to trigger a lamp or detect when electricity has
been used. Within GrandCare we can
setu p“Rules”, below are examples of
how “Rules” work with Sensors and
Smart Switch’s to monitor and
keep people safe.
SCENARIO:
If the parent goes to the bathroom between 11pm and 7am and has not re-
turned to bed within 10 minutes an alert will be sent to the primary carer.
RULE:
Using a directional motion sensor by the bedside, we setup a rule within
GrandCare that states, if the motion detector is triggered between the hours
of 11pm and 7am, from when motion is detected the system is counting down
from 10 minutes, if motion is detected within 10 minutes the individual is ok, if
not rule will send a pre-recorded message to the designated person.
ACTIVITY/MULTI-SENSOR SENSOR
The GrandCare Activity Monitoring System comes with a complete 2 year Guarantee & Support Package.

Activity Monitoring
SCENARIO:
Father walks the dog at 10.30pm for 20 minutes, if he has not returned by
11pm an alert would be sent to the primary carer.
RULE:
Using a door sensor, we setup a rule to state that if the door is opened
after 10.30pm and has not been reopened and closed by 11pm an alert
would be sent to via text/voice call or email.
DOOR SENSOR
SCENARIO:
Father wakes at 3am to go to the bathroom, by triggering the activity
sensor this turns on the lamp via the smart switch, and turns it off when
he returns to bed.
RULE:
Between 11pm and 7am if the activity sensor is triggered, switch on lamp
via smart switch, when activity is detected again switch lamp off.
SMART SWITCH
SCENARIO:
If Mother’s daily routine starts to go out of sync, for example between
11pm and 7am she starts wandering around, going downstairs, making
drinks numerous time throughout the night, opening the fridge or
opening the external door.
RULE:
If excessive movement is detected over a period of three nights then an
alert will be sent. This can also be backed up with, if the exterior door
is opened between these times any night to alert the individual that “its
3am go back to bed”, this would also send an alert to a family member.
