Components of the UK University Application
• A UCAS Application. Can be started in June
2016.
• Make 5 course choices. Look carefully at the
entry requirements and select:
1-2 long shots
2-3 good bets
1 safety/insurance school
• A personal statement
• A reference

Student/Counsellor Responsibilities
Student
• Choosing appropriate course of study & university choices with input of
parents/counsellor
• UCAS application, Personal Statement
• Approaching teachers for feedback in subjects related to course (used for compiling
UCAS reference)
Counsellor
• Writing a reference with student and teacher’s input
• Entering predicted grades on UCAS application
• Checking final application and sending to UCAS

Dates & Deadlines
• Early October: Application deadline for Medicine, Dentistry, Oxford and
Cambridge. Consider summer courses or preparation courses for these.
• December: Deadline for applications.
• February: Extra starts (if no offers from 5 original choices).
• May/June: Accept 1 firm offer and 1 insurance.
• July: IB results
• August: Clearing and Adjustment start.

information (US only)
• Completing financial paperwork
• Sending SAT/ACT Scores
• Ensuring all high school transcripts, especially from previous schools, are on file
Counsellor
• Developing realistic but optimistic list of universities with students and parents
• Writing Counselor Recommendation (with student/teacher/parent input)
• Sending transcripts for the last 4 years of high school (via Naviance)
• Sending teacher recommendations & school profile (via Naviance)
