The Canadian government introduced new measures to address the Omicron variant of COVID-19 detected in South Africa and other countries. It will not permit entry for foreign nationals who have traveled in South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, or Namibia within the last 14 days. Additionally, enhanced border measures will apply to all travelers entering Canada who have been in any of those Southern African regions within the previous two weeks. The new variant, named Omicron, has not yet been found within Canada.
