Jason and his band of Argonauts set out on a quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece in order to rightfully claim the throne of Iolcus in Thessaly from King Pelias, who had usurped power. The Golden Fleece was a treasure guarded in Colchis that Jason and his crew sought in order to fulfill King Pelias' request and allow Jason to regain his throne. The Argonauts successfully retrieved the Golden Fleece and returned with it to Greece.
