Philip was one of Jesus's twelve disciples who came from Bethsaida and was a fisherman by trade. He preached in Phrygia and died a martyr in Hierapolis by hanging. Philip had a warm heart but was pessimistic by nature. He wanted to help others but did not see how it could be done. Bartholomew, also known as Nathanael, was a missionary to Asia and was martyred in Armenia by being flayed to death with a whip. Both Philip and Bartholomew struggled with faith at times and needed proof or encouragement from Jesus to fully believe.
Hosea lived in Israel during a time of political anarchy, social compromise and corruption, and religious idolatry. He experienced God's command to marry an unfaithful wife, Gomer, as a metaphor for Israel's unfaithfulness to God through idolatry. Hosea's key messages were that Israel was sinful but God is holy; judgment for sin is sure as God is just; and though Israel was rebellious, God still loves them. He called Israel to repent from idolatry and return to God's merciful love.
1. The Gibeonites deceived Israel into making a peace treaty by pretending to come from a faraway land. Joshua agreed without consulting God.
2. Joshua was misled because he judged the situation based on surface details instead of seeking God's guidance.
3. Christians can be led astray if they interpret the Bible subjectively without proper principles or allow circumstances to influence their understanding over Scripture.
Joshua deals with the deception of the Gibeonites in making a covenant with people whom God said to destroy because he forgot to ask God about the deal. Joshua is caught off guard, but learns from his mistake.
This document discusses reasons why God may delay in answering prayers and providing guidance. It outlines several potential reasons for delay, including: asking the wrong question; dictating the method God should use to respond; God testing one's faith and commitment through waiting; God wanting people to wait on Him in silence; and the next move belonging to God. It provides biblical examples to support each point and emphasizes discerning God's voice by checking any perceived message against Scripture and God's character. Overall, the document counsels patience during periods of waiting for God's answers or direction.
Joseph faced repeated injustice and hardship after being sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, including false imprisonment. However, Joseph was able to endure these difficult circumstances without losing his faith in God or becoming bitter because he believed God was sovereign over all the details of his life and trusted that God was with him through it all, protecting and prospering him according to His plan.
1) Elijah had a personal encounter with God through a still small voice after experiencing a great wind, earthquake, and fire.
2) Elijah fell into despair after this encounter, feeling alone and wanting to give up.
3) God reassured Elijah that he was not alone and called him to continue his tasks of anointing new leaders.
This document discusses how the small decisions we make each day shape the overall story of our lives. It encourages letting God help write our story by developing consistency in spiritual disciplines like prayer, Bible study, and church participation. These disciplines will prepare us to face future challenges and stay strong in our faith. The document suggests choosing one thing to start, such as fasting, journaling, or counseling, in order to move in the direction God wants for our lives and tell the story He wants us to tell.

1. God will never forsake his children, even when they disobey him, as demonstrated when he continued to help Israel after their failure to properly attack Ai.
2. God can take the mistakes of his children and turn them into positive results, as he used Israel's original failed strategy against Ai to deceive and trap the city's men.
3. While God gives the overall plan, he allows freedom within his guidelines to develop specific strategies, like how he let Joshua plan tactics to take Ai but kept the overall framework.
The document discusses prosperity in the Kingdom of God. It states that prosperity is not achieved through popular prosperity gospel teachings. It warns of a thief that wants to steal prosperity by killing what makes people prosperous and destroying their relationship with God. It advises that to be prosperous, one should not follow the ways of the world, choose friends wisely, make God's word their treasure, be a person of the word and Holy Spirit, as whoever does this prospers according to Psalm 1.
Some are prophets of words, and such would be Isaiah, and others are prophets of deeds, and that would be Elijah. He is the prophet mentioned in the New Testament more than any other prophet, and it was not for his writing, but for his deeds. He wrote no books, and left no notes to inspire us. He left a legacy of miracles and wondrous deeds that capture the mind and motivate us to act in faith. He promptly obeyed every word of God's guidance, and the result was a life of one amazing deed after another. This chapter is a highlight in the life of this one of a kind prophet.
Yusuf was summoned by the king to interpret dreams, which foretold seven years of drought. He correctly interpreted dreams that belonged to two prisoners and the king. This led to Yusuf being given a high position as an advisor to the king. Later chapters will cover Yusuf's brothers coming to Egypt during the famine and Yusuf revealing his identity to forgive his brothers.
- Solomon becomes king after David and receives wisdom from God. He builds the temple but later turns away from God.
- The kingdom divides into Israel and Judah. Prophets disobey and Elijah predicts a drought, confronting Ahab and fleeing from Jezebel. Ahab goes to war with Syria and is condemned by God.
Paul and Barnabas traveled to various cities on their first missionary journey, preaching the word of God. In one city, many Jews rejected their message and insulted them. Paul and Barnabas then turned to preach to Gentiles instead, citing a scripture about bringing salvation to the ends of the earth. The Gentiles received their message gladly and believed. The sermon examines how people today can "kill Jesus" through rejection, indifference, or diluted loyalty, and encourages committing fully to Jesus instead.

The document discusses God's plan for human happiness according to Psalm 1. It says that true happiness is found by delighting in God's word, meditating on it daily, and not following the advice of wicked people or sinners. The righteous are compared to a fruitful tree planted by water that prospers in all it does, while the wicked are like chaff that will perish. God watches over the righteous and their path leads to happiness, while the way of the wicked ends in ruin.
This document contains 12 sections summarizing the story of Peter's imprisonment and miraculous escape from prison through the intervention of an angel as recounted in Acts 12. Key details include: Peter was imprisoned and guarded by 16 soldiers intending to be brought out after Easter to the people; the church prayed fervently for Peter; an angel appeared and woke Peter, loosening his chains and guiding him out past the guards though he thought it was a vision; when outside he realized God had delivered him from Herod.
The document discusses the influence of the number 3 in Surah Yusuf. It notes that there are 111 ayahs in the surah, it begins with the three letters Alif. Lam. Ra, and it describes the story of Prophet Yusuf in three dreams. Additionally, it outlines several other elements of the surah that occur in groups of three, such as the three places Yusuf was imprisoned, the three principles he taught, and the three generations of prophets mentioned. The document suggests this pervasive theme of threes is a unique structural aspect of Surah Yusuf.
The document provides biographical information about two of Jesus's twelve disciples: James and Jude. It states that James was thrown from the temple but survived, was stoned, and was buried in Capernaum. Jude was killed with arrows for refusing to deny his faith. The document also warns about identifying false religions based on their words, works, ways, and walks, exhorting the reader to compare everything to the Bible.

The document discusses the Beatitude of "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness." It explains that this refers to having a strong desire and appetite for righteousness that is needed to sustain one's spiritual life. Specifically:
1) One must have a "proper appetite" for righteousness and God's word, rather than worldly things.
2) One must have the "proper attitude" of prioritizing obedience to God over men, as exemplified by Joseph and early Christians.
3) One must have the "proper acquaintances" by avoiding friendship with the world and being separate from unrighteousness. True Christians should seek to help others become friends of God rather than just being friends with

The document summarizes key points from Hebrews 13. It discusses three main topics: brotherly love by showing hospitality to others and remembering prisoners; purity in marriage and avoiding sexual immorality; and avoiding covetousness by being content with what you have since God will never abandon his people. The chapter shifts to practical advice about horizontal relationships after addressing the vertical relationship with God. Contentment comes from God, not material possessions, and believers can be at peace knowing God is always with them.

Session 15 Old Testament Overview - I & II KingsJohn Brooks
The document provides an overview of the biblical books of 1 and 2 Kings. It discusses how Kings originally formed one book and was compiled from many historical sources. The events covered stretch from King Solomon's rule to the exile of God's people. Throughout Kings, the kings are evaluated based on how well they obey God's law. Both the northern and southern kingdoms experience periods of obedience and disobedience among their rulers. This leads to blessings or judgments, as outlined in Deuteronomy. Ultimately, no earthly king fully fulfills God's purposes until the coming of Jesus Christ as the eternal king in the line of David.
This document discusses the conditional nature of God's grace and salvation. It provides several biblical examples of people who rejected God's grace through stubborn rebellion and unrepentant sin. The scriptures show that true believers can fall from grace if they neglect their salvation and turn to lust and ungodliness. God does not tolerate sin but disciplines and may condemn those who despise His grace. Overall, the document argues that salvation is secure only for those who live faithfully to Christ; backsliding and willful sin can lead to rejection if unrepented.
This document provides commentary on Chapter 2 of 1 Kings regarding Elijah and the famine in Israel. It discusses how Elijah obediently presented himself to King Ahab after a long period of waiting on God's command. The famine in Samaria was now severe after over 3 years without rain. Multiple commentators discuss Elijah's patience and willingness to wait on God's timing, as well as the hardships faced by the people of Israel during prolonged famines in biblical times.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

1. God will not forget

Joshua 14:6-15
Based on Joshua: Living a Consistent Role
Model by Gene A Getz
2. ● Following Joshua’s treaty with the Gibeonites, there
were three successful campaigns to take the land.
● Southern Canaan: Five kings came to destroy Gibeon
in Joshua 10:1-5, but Israel was victorious, and used
this to take most of the South.
● Northern Canaan: It took nearly 7 years, but they
defeated 31 kings.
● At this point, God told Joshua to divide the land to the
tribes because he was getting too old for combat, even
though they had not conquered the entire land.
3. Caleb walks on the stage
● Caleb is 85 and still a strong, powerful man of war.
● 45 years earlier, God had promised Caleb all the land
he had walked on because he spoke up when the other
spies were afraid.
● Numbers 13:30-33
● Caleb dared to disagree with the majority and had the
courage to stand up and say something.
● Note: Joshua agreed, but stayed silent. Caleb was
rewarded for his boldness!
4. ● Numbers 14:22-24
● Do you want people to be able to say “he or she
followed God fully?” What an awesome epitaph!
● Joshua 14:7-12
● Caleb was promised the mountain where the Anakims
(giants) lived. It was a heavily fortified and populated
area, so it would be a much more difficult fight.
● Note his humility in verse 12; he doesn’t take God’s
blessing for granted. He is confident in his abilities and
strength, but recognized God’s ultimate control.
● End result: Joshua 14:13-15
5. 1. God honors men and women who
walk in His will.
● We read three times that God blessed Caleb because
he followed the Lord fully.
● Remember though that Israel’s disobedience interfered
with Caleb’s desire to go into the land.
● There are times when people in our lives limit our ability
to be as responsive to the will of God as we’d like, but
God knows our hearts.
● Be careful to make sure you are taking a stand based
on God’s word and not your own prejudiced opinions!
6. 2. God honors those who take a stand against
the majority when the majority is wrong.
● It is very, very easy to side with the majority and
compromise our Christian convictions out of fear.
● You will be called a bigot, hater, homophobe, racist, and
so on.
● Are you ready to stand on biblical grounds on issues
like gay marriage, drugs and alcohol, modesty, music,
TV/Movies, etc?
7. 3. God honors those who take a stand for Him
even though it means rejection by the group.
● The 10 spies had stirred up the people so much they
wanted to stone Caleb, Joshua, and Moses in Numbers
14.
● You may not have been threatened with death for your
faith, but it does happen! Speak up anyway!
● Romans 1:16
● Philippians 1:19-20
8. 4. God will not forget those who serve Him
faithfully and consistently.
● God ALWAYS honors faithful obedience.
● God never forgets!
● Like Caleb, some of that reward often comes in this life,
but it will DEFINITELY come in eternity.
● It is those eternal rewards that really count.
