From March 2020 to March 2021, philanthropic donations in response to COVID-19 in Western Balkan countries totaled over 70 million euros, mostly spent on consumer goods like masks, gloves, and disinfectants. The data analyzed over 5,800 donation instances across the region, finding that donations were primarily used to purchase supplies and consumables in Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia, while humanitarian aid was the main focus in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.

1. Philanthropy’s Response to
COVID-19
In all countries of the Western Balkan, most of the donations are
for the purchase of consumer goods, such as masks, gloves and
disinfectants.
From the beginning of the crisis to March 31, 2021, we processed
data on 5,832 philanthropic instances in the Western Balkans
and registered the total amount of EUR 70,253,602 in donations.
