Uniting Girls to Change the World
Muneeza Sheikh & Ashwini Selvakumaran
“Every girl, no matter where she is born,
deserves to dream. We can make her
dreams a reality”
Better yet, BR has got the passion &
commitment it takes!
What is Girl Up?
What is Girl Up?
Girls are powerful.
When they’re educated, healthy, and safe, they transform their communities.
When girls stand up for girls in need, they empower each other and transform our
world.
As the United Nations Foundation’s adolescent girl campaign, Girl Up engages
girls to take action. Led by a community of nearly half a million passionate
advocates raising awareness and funds, our efforts help the hardest to reach girls
living in places where it is hardest to be a girl.
What are we going to do?
We would love to collaborate with Fierce’s initiatives
Our mission matches with Fierce in striving to make girls confident, however we would like to
remain as an independent club, in regards to raising awareness for other girls and young
women around the globe.
We must follow specific guidelines (including hosting five activities in one school
year).
Activities for clubs include volunteering and attending WE DAY!
We would maintain contact with the larger Girl Up committee through semester
and activity reports.
Tentative schedule
1. Get permission to start a Girl Up chapter at BR, and find an advisor (June
2016)
2. Advertise Girl Up at the club fair in the beginning of the 2016-2017 school
year
3. Elect positions when Girl Up starts, in October 2016
4. Attend WE Day on October 19th, 2016
5. Through the span of November to May 2016/2017 plan and carry out club
activities
Why Girl Up?
More like... why not?
Empowerment. Confidence. Strength. We
know that hosting a club like this in BR,
would not only be beneficial to our student
body, but to all of the girls here at BR.
When girls rally together, they are capable of
so much. We want to jumpstart all of the
positive and creative energy flowing
throughout the halls of BR, into a club that
will not only advocate for a better tomorrow
for the students of BR, but for the whole
community as well.
How are we going to get
started, you ask?
Getting Started
As a part of Girl Up, this club will have various responsibilities to uphold. An ideal
Girl Up chapter, would meet weekly for forty-five minutes. These meetings include
ideas for educating and raising awareness of girls throughout the globe, and
helping to raise money for third-world and developing countries, where girls simply
are not able to access the same opportunities as we can.
By establishing a Girl Up chapter in BR, we will continue to recognize the
capability of girls, and promote unity and diversity throughout our club. We will
work together to create and brainstorm new ideas and initiatives to connect girls
around the globe.
The Benefits, you
may be
The Benefits of Girl Up!
There are so many benefits of establishing
a Girl Up chapter, especially in a school as
passionate as BR. Chapters in the past
have raised up to $125,000 to support UN
programs for adolescent girls in developing
and third-world countries. Many clubs gain
recognition each year for their hard work
and efforts, and we have no doubt that BR
will not fail to establish an amazing chapter,
that will proudly represent all girls!
The Benefits of Girl Up!
Being a part of Girl Up also provides BR with
countless opportunities, such as the chance
to attend or host school-wide celebrations on
International Day of the Girl and International
Women’s Day. Girl Up also provides
countless scholarships and awards to
deserving young females each year.
We believe that BR has the initiative and
what it takes to establish an amazing Girl Up
chapter!
Girl Up @ BR!
We would like to develop a Girl Up chapter at BR that would ideally start next
year. BR has many students who are willing to initiate positive social change and
we want to make sure we recognize them! It is about time that we “Girl Up” in the
game, and start to create a more aware and passionate understanding, revolving
around the strength and capability of all girls!
We appreciate the time you took today in meeting us, and we are very eager and
excited to hopefully start a chapter at BR!
