4. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
• To conduct Wind & Solar Resource Assessment of Mustang with
specific locations
• To identify the policy as well as technical bottlenecks to generate
the energy from wind and solar in Mustang
• To suggest practical ways to produce the energy within short span
of time.
• Limitation: time and resource constraint

Procedure, Conservation Area
• Planning Approval: EIA requirement >2 years, DoED/IBN license period
only 2 years
• Grid Connection: nearest substation: 220kV Dana, 40km from Jomsom;
NEA restriction 10% of grid capacity
• Infrastructure and Accessibility: Beni-Jomsom 10m wide black topped
road still under construction; existing bridges width very narrow ~4m
CHALLENGES

9. • GoN owned Company: Land acquisition, Planning approval and Global bidding
• Scientific Land Zonation and Land Use Policy: Need for Land Zonation Maps and
specific Land Use Policies for conflict areas (discovery of radioactive elements
in Upper Mustang leading to decision of Govt. to halt one solar project; ACAP)
• Grid Expansion: Expand 220kv line from Dana to Jomsom/Chhusang; Connect
it to Cross border- 400kV New Butwal- New Gorakhpur
• Accessibility: 10m width strong bridges; Blacktop road from Jomsom-Korala
Highway (procurement of turbines from China)
