The document discusses Malaysia's national R&D priorities and approach to setting them. It notes that a National Technology Foresight study and National Science and Research Council were established to govern R&D. Expert working groups analyzed existing focus areas, benchmarks, trends and Malaysia's strengths to identify 4 priority R&D areas aligned with Vision 2020. The areas will focus funding and help advance discoveries, competitiveness and societal wellbeing according to a new National R&D Framework.
ipCG announces the detailed agenda for the upcoming 9th Annual Thought Leadership Conference - Connectovate: Innovate Across Connections to Create Value on 2-4Nov11 in Stowe VT. Includes agenda for main event and information about three add-on sessions for 2Nov11.
The seemingly ambiguous title of this presentation – use of the terms maturity and innovation in concord – signifies the imperative of every organisation within the competitive domain. Where organisational maturity and innovativeness were traditionally considered antonymous, the assimilation of these two seemingly contradictory notions is fundamental to the assurance of long-term organisational prosperity. Organisations are required, now more than ever, to grow and mature their innovation capability – rending consistent innovative outputs. The presentation describes research conducted to consolidate the principles of innovation and identify the fundamental components that constitute organisational innovation capability. The process of developing an Innovation Capability Maturity Model is discussed. A brief description is provided of the basic components of the model, followed by the case studies that were conducted to evaluate the model. The presentation concludes with a summary of the findings and potential future research.

This presentation was made as a scene setting presentation during the Asean Foresight Alliance 2021 session. It highlights the use of foresight & futures thinking to help organizations to navigate post pandemic futures.
Technologies has been disrupting traditional industries at an ever-increasing pace and now the pandemic has basically put these changes into hyper-speed.
The current pandemic has been, to say the least, grim for business. Yet during this crisis, some companies been thriving because of dramatic shifts in consumer behaviour
As the anticipation of further easing to Movement Control Order (MCO) is upon us, organizations & people are facing challenges to operate & behave in the new environment. We asked “How ready are Malaysian to return to normal?”
A short survey was conducted between 25th to 29th May, asking the Malaysian public how comfortable they are to return to selected “normal” behaviours.
This presentation highlights the state of S&T through the perspective of Science Governance, Industry and Education. This was used as a scene setting presentation for scenario planning session.
This presentation was made during Malaysia's National Youth Conference held in PICC on the 15th of May 2014.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
