Germany Updates Minimum Salary Qualifications for EU Blue Card Holders
(Bristol, UK) - The German government has raised the minimum salary qualifications under the Blue
Card Program, reports Nair & Co.’s International HR Team.
Effective 1 January 2014, the minimum gross salary for first-time EU Blue Card holders has been
increased to €47,600 (up from €46,400 in 2013).
The salary threshold for those employed in shortage occupations increases to €37,128 (up from €36,192
in 2013). Blue Cards may only be issued to such individuals after obtaining consent of the Federal
Employment Agency, unless their university degree was awarded in Germany.
Nair & Co. advises that companies with operations in Germany should factor in the minimum salary
requirements when assigning EU Blue Card workers as it could impact business costs of assignments.
