Gerasa was a city in the Decapolis region during the 1st-2nd century AD. The Decapolis cities had a degree of autonomy within the Roman Empire and were centers of Greek and Roman culture. Gerasa contained many Roman monuments from this period including gates, a circus, temples, theaters, and public structures like a macellum and nymphaeum that were laid out according to the standard Roman city plan.
