Georgia developed an Intelligent Transportation System called NaviGAtor to manage traffic for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. NaviGAtor uses technology like cameras, sensors, and variable message signs along with human operators to monitor traffic conditions and assist drivers. It has helped reduce crashes and pollution while saving drivers time and money. The system continues operating today through the Transportation Management Center and 511 phone and web services which provide real-time traffic information.
