PROFILE
Geologist with masters degree experienced in geological supervision and analysis, in
tandem with supervision of directional drilling subcontractors to land and complete
horizontal gas, heavy and light oil wells. Experience with sandstone, shale, and carbonate
reservoirs in Canada and the United States including cased, barefoot, multi-leg, SAGD,
experimental and under-balanced wells. Structurally challenging (folded, faulted) and thin
reservoir targets commonplace. Clear, real-time communication of well progress to client
company and between multiple wellsight disciplines a central role. Completely flexible on
short notice and remote work locations and relocation.
EXPERIENCE
Wellsite Geologist, RPS Energy, Calgary Alberta, 2010-2016
Responsibilities - Wellsite geological analysis and supervision of directional drilling to
land and complete horizontal wells. Authored and submitted drilling reports,
recommendations, striplogs and catalogued samples at the completion of each well.
Client companies include - Talisman Energy, Conoco Phillips, Cenovus Energy, Laricina
Energy Ltd., Longview Oil Corp., Dee Three Oil Corp., Granite Oil Corp.
Formations, units, reservoirs include but not limited to - Bakken Sand/Siltstone, Midale
Dolomite (Williston Basin), Grossmont Carbonate, Marcellus Shale, Evie Shale (Horn
River Frm), Cummings-Dina Member (Manville Grp), Cardium Sanstone, Glauconite
Sandstone, Belly River (channel & basal) Sandstones, Waseca Sandstone.
Skills - Wellsite, real-time microscopic lab analysis of drill cuttings to determine reservoir
quality, plotting TVD logs to pick formation tops, adjusting directional targets. Installing
and maintaining gas detector and wellsight lab. Integrate gas, MWD data and drilling
parameters with sample observations to determine well-path location with respect to
optimal reservoir. Combined all said data with well-path plots and lithological
microdescriptions to produce comprehensive, concise, striplogs to update clients in real-
time. At well completion authored, edited and submitted drilling reports, striplogs and
catalogued samples. Excelled as communication hub between wellsite and home offices
across multiple disciplines often with commonly changing and challenging personnel to
keep well-path in the target reservoir when it would have otherwise not have been,
(commonly deviating from pre-spud plans). Experienced with geo-steering and striplog
2. software to adjust directional targets and present formation models. Basic computer
proficient, (word processing, spreadsheets, photoshop, report writing, presentations, etc.).
Teaching Assistant Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, USA, 2000-2010
Researcher, lab instructor, substitute lecturer for; structural, mineralogy, hydrology,
igneous-metamorphic university courses. Assisted in revamping of the geology 101 labs/
improving lab instruction and teaching materials.
The Pub; General Manager, Athens, Ohio (second job), 2003-2010
Responsible for day to day running of business including staffing, supervising, ordering
supplies, promotions and light accounting.
Geological Researcher,Tamaulipas Prov., Mexico April-July, 2000
Geological mapping, sampling and interpretation of large previously largely
uninvestigated tectonic package. Responsible for budgeting, scheduling, logistics/
planning, data collection, interpretation and reporting.
Environmental Monitor, STATIA Terminals/Pt.Tupper Marine Services Ltd., Port
Hawkesbury, Novas Scotia, Canada, June-August 1999
PTMS Ltd. - Field leader for development of shoreline environmental assessment and
logistics planning for rapid-response oil spill containment/clean up program.
STATIA - On-site environmental ground water monitoring and sampling of
recommissioned petroleum tank farm.
