5. An Italian telecommunications company wanted to test
its applicants to see who deserved a position at the
company. After a written test, the company gave each
person a bag of green beans. Whoever was best at
growing them into sprouts in the given amount of time
would get the promotion.
6. When the time came, the applicants brought
back their green beans sprouts back.
However, one of the workers was missing.
7. The manager decided to give this
person a call to see why he didn’t
show up. After picking up the
phone, the man was full of regret
and apologized to the manager.
8. He explained that although he had put so much
effort into caring for the beans, his seeds didn’t
sprout at all! Since there were no results, he
concluded there was no way for him to get the job
and decided not to show up.
9. After explaining, he was about to hang up when the
manager shouted through the receiver, “You! You are
the one we want for the job!”
10. It turns out that all
the green beans in
the test were fake
beans. None of them
could grow into
sprouts! Since this
man did not cheat or
lie about the sprouts,
he proved that he
was a genuine and
ethical person.
11. Even though all of the other applicants
submitted beautiful sprouts, they accomplished
their goal by using unfair ways and by cheating.
In the end, none of them got the job.
12. Pop Quiz!
• After the written test, what did the company give
each applicant?
• Why were all the applicants able to grow sprouts
except one?
• When it came time to submit the sprouts, why was
one of the applicants missing?
• Why did the manager give the job to the missing
applicant?
• According to this story, what is the most important
trait when we interact with other people?
14. “Behold, You delight in truth in the inward parts;
And in the hidden part You would make known
wisdom to me.”
Psalm 51:6
15. Behind every lie and false thing is Satan.
The Bible tells us that Satan is the Father
of all liars.
God is happy when we are genuine and
honest people. He can protect us from all
of Satan’s lies and tricks and help us to be
children of light.
16. Practice Makes Perfect!
Speak only what
is true.
Be genuine and
honest to other
people.
