Talent Under-utilization
Large companies often find themselves unable to fully leverage
talents across the organization because:
• analysts tend to be aligned by verticals
• within verticals analysts are further aligned under particular
clients
These two delineations result in isolation and fragmentation
of knowledge if there is no effective channel for internal
knowledge sharing.
Large companies often face the problem of talent utilization issues

A sales person may have
a solution question

specific analysis?
• Can we track model results

machine learning and

model is better than
someone else’s?
• What part of the model
results should be
socialized with the client?
An account person may have
an implementation question
If a Genpacter does not know to whom to turn to ask a question, they are losing
out on the fact that somewhere we have the ability to answer that question!
AND
If they do not have a chance to vet an idea with a SME, then they will not be
providing the best possible solution to a client!

 crowd sourcing vs. profile filtering

Why Crowd-sourcing and Self-nomination
These new approaches maximize individual motivation and
coverage of expertise and experience because
• self-nominators are more intrinsically motivated than those pushed forward by
the leadership.
• Crowd-sourcing includes all who raised their hands to join the Think Tank and
thus leaves no area untouched.
Considering crowd-sourcing might bring up chaos and slow
down solutioning, a senior moderator was appointed to review
the quality of the questions answered and served as the final
decision-maker in situations of conflicting opinions.

• Review the volume, velocity and variety of questions
and develop corresponding action plans each quarter

Conclusions and Suggestions
• Think Tank has shown its potential as a viable solution to the
talent utilization problem
• Not all questions received at least one response from the Think
Tank due to the scope and/or complexity of the question asked.
The senior moderator needs to step in and coordinate
• Think Tank may need a bit “nudging” to be active and
productive. This is an ongoing learning journey

All Rights Reserved. 2 Talent Under-utilization Large companies often find themselves unable to fully leverage talents across the organization because: • analysts tend to be aligned by verticals • within verticals analysts are further aligned under particular clients These two delineations result in isolation and fragmentation of knowledge if there is no effective channel for internal knowledge sharing. Large companies often face the problem of talent utilization issues

All Rights Reserved. 3 Genpact analytical community owns a vast array of expertise and experience which is our greatest asset Genpact Analytics is a tremendous resource Therefore there is no analytical question we cannot answer! There is no methodology we have not worked with! There is no problem too complex for us!!

All Rights Reserved. 4 If the 6,500+ strong analytical capability is not fully leveraged and made available to all who need it, its value is greatly reduced An analyst may have a mathematical question The analytical resource is only valuable if leveraged • What is the best way to reduce colinearity? • How do I ensure I have a global optimum? • How is assisted impact measured? • How do I address matrix singularity? • How do I model unstable time series data? • How does one handle multimodal lags? • How different is CHAID and CART? • Should I use a negative binomial distribution or a gamma distribution? • How do I derive coefficients by cross section? • What is the optimal size of a training and holdout dataset? • How does each vertical measure Sales Force Effectiveness? • What are some of the newest data sources available? • How different is our approach versus the industry standard? • What methodologies do other companies use? • What is a simple explanation of our methodology? • How do we validate an analysis? A sales person may have a solution question • What is the implication of a specific analysis? • Can we track model results with primary research? • What have we done in machine learning and social media? • How do we know if our model is better than someone else’s? • What part of the model results should be socialized with the client? An account person may have an implementation question If a Genpacter does not know to whom to turn to ask a question, they are losing out on the fact that somewhere we have the ability to answer that question! AND If they do not have a chance to vet an idea with a SME, then they will not be providing the best possible solution to a client!

All Rights Reserved. 5 When someone has a question on ANY topic… Current State: They either do not ask or they ask their circle of contacts Future State: They ask the most appropriate SME or team of SMEs The idea is to assemble a Think Tank from among the 6,500+ analysts who represent a breadth of experience and capability which is then the resource to whom ANY Genpacter can revert with ANY question! Time to upgrade our current process Industry Trend Question Coding Question Technical Math Question Question Received Triaged and Assigned Addressed by SME Resource Answer Documented and Shared Leveraging the Think Tank Step 1: Someone submits any question Step 2: The question is assigned to the appropriate SME(s) from the Think Tank to address it accordingly Step 3: The answer is documented for future FAQs and shared with the person asking

All Rights Reserved. 7 Why Crowd-sourcing and Self-nomination These new approaches maximize individual motivation and coverage of expertise and experience because • self-nominators are more intrinsically motivated than those pushed forward by the leadership. • Crowd-sourcing includes all who raised their hands to join the Think Tank and thus leaves no area untouched. Considering crowd-sourcing might bring up chaos and slow down solutioning, a senior moderator was appointed to review the quality of the questions answered and served as the final decision-maker in situations of conflicting opinions. The senior moderator needs to step in and coordinate • Think Tank may need a bit “nudging” to be active and productive. This is an ongoing learning journey Conclusions and Suggestions
