The UNDP report proposes a temporary basic income for poor women in developing countries to address gender inequalities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. On average, women spend more time than men on unpaid domestic work and childcare. They have been disproportionately impacted economically by the pandemic due to occupying precarious jobs and having greater responsibilities at home. The report recommends a TBI of 0.07-0.31% of GDP for 613 million women living in poverty globally. Along with financial support, policies like paid parental leave, anti-discrimination laws, and flexible work arrangements are needed to promote gender equality in the workplace and redistribution of unpaid care work.
