Mohandas Gandhi was an influential leader of the Indian independence movement in the early 20th century. He believed in non-violent civil disobedience and led peaceful protests such as marches to end British rule in India. Gandhi's teachings of non-violence and civil disobedience helped rally many Indians against British injustice and unfair treatment. He was imprisoned several times for his demonstrations but continued his efforts, which eventually led to India gaining independence in 1947. Gandhi sought equal rights for all people regardless of race or religion.
