Mission
Academicperformance duringthe Fall 2015 semesterwasatan all-time highforourhouse. Injust3
short years,we wentfromstrugglingtomake gradeseverysemester,tohavingthe secondhighestGPA
out of all Greekhousesoncampus. Then,duringthe Spring2015 semester,the GammaXi chapter
abandonedall of itsprogress,andbarelymanagedtomake grades. I was deeplytroubledbythe
deplorable studyhabitsandlackof devotiontoschoolwork, soImade the decisiontorun for
ScholarshipChairmantomake vital changes tothe scholarshipprograminorderto helpeachmember
succeed.
Action Plan
 Analyze the previoussemester’sgradesbasedon grade distribution,individual performance,
and pastperformance,inorderto identifywhichmembersare strugglingandhow tomake the
incentive programmore effective
 Work withthe ScholarshipCommittee andExecutive Committee toupdate: studyhourtiers, the
incentive program,andscholarshipby-laws. Changeswill focus onemphasizingacademic
performance andprovidingeachindividual withthe toolsandguidance tohelpthemsucceed
 Checkthat eachmemberhas his schedule postedonhisdoor
 Poststudyhour program andlistof membersonstudyhours
 Builda personal relationshipwitheachstrugglingmembertoidentifybadstudypractices,and
provide themwithguidance ongoodpractices
 Have one-on-one meetings withstrugglingmembersatmidtermstoassessperformance,tohelp
themto identifypracticesthatare hurtingthemacademically,andtoultimately come upwith
an actionplanto helpeachindividual succeed
 Host firstannual 3.0 steakdinnerasa visual representationof academicperformance from
previoussemester
 Recognize academicachievementinnew ways,includingpresentingscholarshipkeysand
incentivesatchapter,andrecognizingmemberswhoperformedwell ontestseachweek
 Include quicktipsaspart of myChapterreport. These tipswill include:informingmemberson
goodstudypractices,remindingmembersof importantacademicdeadlines, announcing
campusand IFC sponsoredreview sessions, andrefocusingmembers’attentiontoschoolwork
by remindingthemof incentivesbefore weekswithmanytests
 Update file system:get ridof oldfiles,assesswhatfilesare missingfromsystem, digitize all
currentfiles,andsetupa reliable systemformemberstoturnin new files.
Incentive Program
To encourage academicexcellence,memberswill be awardedincentivesbasedonthe previous
semester’sGPA. GPA awardsinclude:
 4.0 - $40 GiftCard
 3.5 or above Cumulative GPA - $10 fast foodgiftcard
 3.0 - SteakDinner
Goals
 Chapter-wideGPA of 3.2
 IFC – top 3 fraternities
 Lessthan 5 membersbelow 2.5,andno membersbelow2.0
GPA Requirements
 Bid extension – 2.5
 Requirement for Initiation – 2.5
 To remain in good standingwith the Chapter - 2.5
 To live in the Chapter house – 2.5
 To hold a position – 2.75
Updated Study Hour Tiers
The Study Hour Program places members into tiers dependent upon the previous semester’s
grades.
Gamma Xi Chapter By-Laws
Article 16: Scholarship
Section 1: (Description of study hour tiers, summarized on the preceding page)
Section 2:
a) Candidates will begin in Tier IV to establish good study habits from the beginning
of their college careers.
b) A Candidate who does not achieve a 1.75 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale, during
their semester of Candidacy, will not be allowed to remain in the Chapter House
or appeal for initiation.
Section 3:
Members on Academic Probation will have the ability to move up 1 tier, dependent on mid-
term grades.
a) Midterm grades must be 3.0 or higher in order to move up.
b) Knights under a 2.00 GPA at Mid-term will be placed on Academic Probation.
Section 4:
Study hours will be enforced from 7 – 11 PM Sunday through Thursday. Study hours is defined
as a block of time devoted to schoolwork. No drinking, TV, or video games are allowed. Visitors
are not allowed unless for studying purposes. Breaks are allowed for intramurals and
mandatory meetings.
a) All House study break is permitted from 9-9:30 PM.
b) Members are allowed to break study hours only when approved by current
Scholarship Chairman.
c) Members will be allowed to use on campus help sessions in place of study hours
only when approved by Scholarship Chairman e.g. office hours, lead sessions,
tutoring etc.
Section 5:
All House quiet hours will be from 7 PM - 7 AM to promote a quality study environment.
Quiet hours are defined as the prohibition of any disturbance to anyone who is studying
e.g. - No loud music, TV on while roommate is studying, etc.
Section 6:
All members shall post schedules on doors before the start of the second week of
classes.
Section 7:
All members are required to present a copy of mid-term grades to the Scholarship
Chairman.
