Gamma Phi Beta Delta Chapter Scholarship Plan
The sisters of the Delta Chapter at Boston University recognize scholarship as one of the core values of Gamma Phi
Beta. As the scholarship chairwoman, in conjunction with the established Scholarship Committee, she will
implement the scholarship plan for the Delta Chapter. The purpose of the scholarship chairwoman and committee is
aid each sister in reaching her highest scholarship potential. This plan outlines the composition and responsibilities
of the Scholarship Committee and the procedures for enforcing the Scholarship Plan.
Scholarship Committee Members
The Scholarship Committee of the Delta Chapter will consist of sisters,one from each class. These members will be
nominated by the chapter/appointed by the Executive Board for the term of one semester. These girls should be
kind-hearted, trustworthy,fair, and encouraging.
Responsibilities of the Scholarship Committee
The main responsibilities of the Scholarship Committee are: administering the scholarship plan, recognizing
members regarding scholarship,enforcing the scholarship plan, and disciplining those who do not meet the chapter’s
scholarship requirements.
Scholarship Plan Requirement
Both new and initiated members of the Delta Chapter must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of
2.7 out of 4.0 to remain in good academic standing. Only sisters in good academic standing will be able to run for
an office during elections each year.
Sisters initiated on or before Fall 2012 will be required to maintain the 2.7 GPA beginning January 1, 2014 to be
considered in good academic standing.Sisters initiated on or after Spring 2016 will be immediately required to
maintain a 2.7 GPA to be considered in good academic standing.
Following Gamma Phi Beta International policies, all members will participate in both proctored and
unproctored/honorstudy hours.Sisters are required to attend study hours for the allotted time:

3.5 – 4.0 Not required 5 hours/week
3.0-3.49 1 hr/week 7 hrs/week
2.5-2.99 3 hrs/week 9 hrs/week
2.0-2.49 5 hrs/week 13 hrs/week
Below 2.0 7 hrs/week 15 hrs/week
If a sister finds that her schoolschedule or curriculum is not conducive to the hours outlined above, the sister must
meet with the scholarship chairwoman to discuss an individualized plan. All sisters must be held to the same
standard; therefore, the plan will not replace study hours.The plan will be an equal substitute.
Collection of Hours
Each new and initiated member turns in her hours weekly to the scholarship chairwoman via Google Document
provided. Unproctored hours will be on the honor system.Therefore, please uphold Gamma Phi Beta’s values when
recording. Proctored hours will be recorded at the time of completion by the appropriate proctor. Hours completed
with a non- Gamma Phi Beta proctormust be submitted by the supplemental proctor sheet to the scholarship
chairwoman with signature. All hours will be checked weekly by the scholars hip chairwoman.
Penalties for Late Submission/No Submission/Incomplete Hours
Fall 2016 Edition
Proctors must be responsible in submitting hours for sisters who attend their sessions on the Google Document. In
addition, sisters must be liable in submitting their own unproctored/honorhours weekly on the correct Google
Document. Everyone must complete the correct amount of proctored and unproctored/honorhours each week.
Sisters must log their weekly study hours by Sunday within 30 minutes of chapterending (i.e. if chapter ends at 6pm
hours will be due at 6:30pm) each week for the previous week. Consequences will be put into effect whether or not
the incomplete submissions occur in consecutive weeks. If sisters submit their hours late, don’t submit hours,or
have incomplete hours,the consequences are:
1st offense Warning email from chairwoman and,if applicable,
incomplete study hours will roll over to the next week
2nd offense Standards hearing with standards committee and
incomplete study hours,if applicable, will roll over to
the next week – possible consequences:increased study
hours and possible academic watch program
3rd offense Executive hearing and incomplete study hours,if
applicable, will roll over to the next week – possible
consequences:increased study hours,social probation,
or membership review
Proctored Hours
▪ Study hours held by proctors during the semester in a public place on/around campus accessible by all
sisters
▪ Study sessions forcourses (if led by a TA or professorand with documentation)
▪ Professor or TA office hours (with documentation)
▪ Professional private tutoring (with documentation)
▪ Other activities with approval from scholarship chairwoman and scholarship committee
Honor/Unproctored Hours
▪ Extra proctored study hours overthe required amount
▪ Working on group projects
▪ Working in computer lab on schoolwork
▪ Tutoring a sister/ Getting tutored by a sister
▪ Studying in the library/room/study lounge/GSU/etc.
▪ Other activities with approval from scholarship chairwoman and scholarship committee
Recognition for Excellence
The Scholarship Committee will review the GPA’s of all sisters and identify those to be recognized for the
scholarship achievements.
▪ 4.0 semester GPA
▪ 3.5-3.99 semester GPA
▪ Most Improved GPA
▪ Highest Initiated Class GPA
▪ Highest Big/Little Average GPA
▪ Most Improved New Member Class GPA
▪ A’s Competition – Sisters will send a picture of an “A” assignment (essay,test,project) to the scholarship
chairwoman. Sisters will receive one point for each assignment, and the sister with the most points at the end of
the semester receives a prize. All who submit A’s will be recognized. This award will be given at the end of the
semester.
▪ “Smartie” Pants – Sisters who improved their GPA from previous semester, have a cumulative GPA over 3.6 will
be entered into a drawing for a special prize at the scholarship dinner.

The scholarship chairwoman and scholarship committee can create supplemental rewards and programming at their
discretion.
Enforcement of the Scholarship Plan
Academic Watch (Under 2.7 Cumulative GPA for 1 semester)
When a sister has a cumulative GPA under 2.7 for 1 semester, she will be placed on the academic watch program.
The sister must:
▪ Meet with scholarship chairwoman and committee within 1 week of notification from the scholarship
chairwoman.
▪ Meet with the faculty advisorand ERC professional staff member within 1 week of meeting with the
scholarship chairwoman and committee. (email Dr. A and set weekly ERC appointments in front of me
during meetings)
▪ Consistently meet with the scholarship chairwoman, Educational Resource Center professional,and faculty
advisor
▪ Submit a “Grade Check” form after Week 8 and 14 of the semester
▪ Cannot proctor study hours by themselves
▪ Share syllabus with scholarship chairwoman
o So scholarship chairwoman and scholarship committee can excuse the sister at their discretion
from any Gamma Phi-related events (i.e. philanthropy, chapter, etc.) that could interfere with
studying for a large exam or doing large project
▪ Complete all proctored and unproctored/honorstudy hours
▪ Failure to comply will result in a Standards Hearing
Academic Recovery (Under 2.7 Cumulative GPA for 2 semesters)
When a sister has a cumulative GPA under 2.7 for 2 semesters,she will be placed on the academic recovery

● Must attend an executive hearing with E-Board within a week of notification from scholarship chairwoman
○ Will get notification about date/time of hearing from president
After this hearing sanctions will be discussed by E-Board. Depending on the circumstances and attitude surrounding
current academic standing, sanctionscan include:
● Must attend proctored hours hosted by E-Board member or scholarship chairwoman
● Be placed on social probation without the opportunity for midterm review

● Membership termination (under extreme circumstances)
Below 2.0 GPA: Those with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 will be immediately called to an executive
hearing and will be put on academic probation. These sisters will not be able to attend any social events
including Date Party and Formal.
New Member Expectations
The new members will be held to the same expectations and standards as initiated sisters.The scholarship
chairwoman will attend a new member meeting to educate new members about the scholarship plan and scholastic
resources on campus.
By signing below, I acknowledge that I have received a copy of the chapter Scholarship Plan. I allow the release of
my university transcript and grade report by a Student Activities Office staff member to the scholarship chairwoman
and executive board of the chapterfor the entirety of my collegiate membership in Gamma Phi Beta. I offer my
