Gabapentin is used to treat partial seizures, postherpetic neuralgia, and neuralgia. It is administered orally in tablet, capsule, and liquid forms at dosages ranging from 300mg to 3600mg per day depending on the condition. Common side effects occurring in over 10% of patients include ataxia, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and somnolence. Less common side effects between 1-10% include diplopia and tremor. Rare side effects under 1% include Stevens-Johnson syndrome, elevated liver enzymes, and rhabdomyolysis. It has drug interactions with aluminum hydroxide, calcium carbonate, and hypnotic agents.
