Purpose
To address reservations about Army Reserve (AR)
participation in the Military Accessions Vital to the
National Interest (MAVNI) program. The primary
concern is about accessions gained through MAVNI
choosing to quit the Reserve once they have attained
citizenship

Methodology
 Accept as input a roster provided by the US Army Recruiting
Command (USAREC)
 Cross-reference with the Total Army Personnel Database-
Reserve (TAPDB-R) to determine:
 Current Ctiizenship
 Current Organizational Type to which assigned
 Number of unsatisfactory periods (if applicable)

 According to TAPDB-R, out of the 64 accessed in FY10:
 Citizenship status:
 There were 2 native born
 3 blank
 56 naturalized
 3 that are still foreign nationals
 Current Organization to which assigned:
 Among those with a blank citizenship code, two of these are in the Individual Ready
Reserve (IRR)
 The remaining individual is in a Troop program Unit (TPU)

Conclusion
 There are insufficient data to support a conclusion
 Attrition within the MAVNI population appears to be less than 2.5% per year for all causes
 Significantly less than the FY13 average of 12.4% among officers
 MAVNI population is not yet mature enough to include aging issues
 For now, it appears that MAVNI officers are less prone to attrition than officers entering the
Reserve through mainstream sources
