The document describes a project by the Welcoming Sanctuary Task Force at the First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn to create banners depicting the Unitarian Universalist Sources of Inspiration to hang in their sanctuary. The task force worked with artists Cooper and Melody to design beautiful banners inspired by their architecture and stained glass that will provide newcomers a clear visual understanding of UU values and enhance everyone's worship experience. A congregational meeting will be held on October 21st to vote on endorsing the project.
This document contains 3 articles from the Cosmic Awareness Communications newsletter:
1) An article discussing Meher Baba, stating that while he attained a high level of consciousness, he mistakenly believed he was the reincarnation of past spiritual figures and the messiah. It warns not to confuse the messenger with the message.
2) A question and response about whether initiation by a living saint is required to end reincarnation. Cosmic Awareness responds that there are many paths to enlightenment beyond just initiation.
3) A closing message about the greatest hindrance to harmony being anxious feelings of having to fight against something, rather than accepting oneself and the world as they are.
The document discusses the evolution of church tradition from ancient to future times across several dimensions including worldview, nature of truth, nature of faith, relating the gospel, worship structure, worship music, and architecture. Key points addressed are the shift from oral to print communication changing from a communal to individual focus, the impact of new communication technologies like broadcasting and the internet, and how perspectives on truth and faith have grown increasingly relativistic and experiential over time. The last section envisions future church trends incorporating systems thinking, a skeptical outlook on truth, faith as an ongoing journey, and worship as an interactive collaboration using various media and musical styles.
This document contains an excerpt from a future book on sanctification by Jean Larroux. It uses an extended metaphor of light representing Christ and shadows representing holiness. The key points made are:
1. Holiness and obedience are byproducts of focusing on Christ, not from focusing on one's own performance. Moving toward the light of Christ produces a growing shadow of holiness.
2. Chasing one's own shadow by focusing on personal piety instead of Christ can actually cause the shadow to shrink and leads to comparing oneself to others.
3. Constantly turning back to the light of Christ through faith and repentance is necessary, as the process of sanctification is ongoing throughout life.

This document provides an introduction to the IW SOUL online magazine. It discusses the magazine's mission to celebrate ways of clearing distractions and focusing fully on whatever one does. It also introduces Innerwealth, the organization that started the magazine, as an alternative to different religious groups that beat each other up. The document then provides summaries of several articles in the first issue, including ones on letting nature be your guide, leadership lessons from the Himalayas, and keys to natural happiness.
This presentation is an introduction to "You Can Bet Your Life on God" by Darby Checketts. The subtitle is: "In a World of Toil and Turmoil...In a World of Joy and Wonder, Let's Keep God in the Conversation." The book explores the significance of God in our busy, sometimes troubled, and nevertheless wonderful world.
Lewis discusses the concept of human suffering in the chapter. He argues that suffering was not originally part of God's design for humanity but is a result of humanity's abuse of free will and fall from grace. Pain serves to get humanity's attention and remind us of our need for God. While suffering is not pleasant, it can produce humility, compassion, and a turning toward God. Lewis maintains that God will use suffering to either remake humanity or show that remaking is no longer possible if free will is not surrendered.
1) Dadaji is described as a miracle that defies comprehension, bringing a new dispensation of religion through his teachings.
2) Dadaji teaches that no human can be a guru, and that the divine resides within each person rather than needing rituals or austerity.
3) The author, a former president of India, had his entire perspective transformed through meeting Dadaji briefly, finding answers to questions he had sought for decades.

A presentation on the topic of differentiating instruction in mixed-ability classrooms.
Resource: How to Differentiate Instruction in Mixed - Ability Classrooms, Carol Ann Tomlinson
This document discusses strategies for differentiated instruction in the foreign language classroom. It provides examples of differentiating content, activities, and student products. Content can be differentiated through audio recordings, multiple texts, and supplemental materials. Activities can be differentiated by allowing student choice, using tiered activities, and mixed readiness groups. Student products can be differentiated by allowing tiered products and student choice in demonstrating learning. The document also discusses addressing diverse learner needs, providing both low and high preparation differentiation strategies, and using tools like cubing and tic-tac-toe choice boards to further differentiate instruction and student work.
The document discusses differentiated instruction in the K-12 curriculum. It provides an overview of differentiated instruction, which recognizes students' varying needs and abilities. Teachers take on roles as designers, assessors, and facilitators of learning to ensure all students' growth. The K-12 curriculum aims to develop globally competitive graduates and considers students' readiness, interests, and learning profiles when differentiating content, process, products, and environment. Effective differentiated instruction involves understanding students and aligning tasks and objectives to their learning goals.
The document outlines 10 differentiation strategies including preassessment to design lessons based on student data, curriculum compacting to efficiently cover material students have already mastered, addressing the 5 most difficult concepts first with flexible grouping and questioning, open-ended tasks that allow students to access material at their own level, tiering assignments based on student needs rather than giving more work, using learning contracts to hold students accountable for independent work, providing choice boards for independent practice, and culminating with independent projects that promote autonomous learning and student buy-in.

G11 Lesson 5 -Person and Community.pptxRobinMallari
The document discusses the topics of person and community from a Christian perspective. It makes 3 main points:
1. The human person is always found in relationship with others in community. An individual finds meaning and fulfills their humanity through commitments and service to others rather than self-absorption.
2. A personal encounter with another awakens us to the equal dignity and inherent worth of all people. Living faithfully means recognizing the value in others.
3. Community is a network of relationships where people come together to support one another's faith and growth. Communication is important for self-understanding, and the self is best understood through reflection and consideration of one's actions and words.
1) Some individuals experience loneliness due to karmic debts from past lives where they set up blocks against relationships. However, others emanate a psychic hunger that repels potential partners.
2) To attract a mate, one must learn to be comfortable without needing anyone for companionship and view potential partners as whole human beings rather than sex objects. Developing friendships without expectations can help relieve feelings of loneliness.
3) Clear communication about personal values and boundaries regarding sexuality is important to avoid making assumptions and prevent hurt feelings on both sides of a relationship.
The document discusses how, with the unfolding of the Inspirational Body stream during adolescence, planetary soul qualities emerge that add contrast to one's temperament. It describes the qualities associated with each day of the week's ruling planet, such as creativity from Monday's Moon or expression from Tuesday's Mars. These planetary influences breathe into our developing Inspirational Body. The document suggests exploring these contrasts through games to better understand one's character.
G11 Lesson 5 -Person and Community.pptxRobinMallari
The document discusses the inextricable relationship between person and community from a Christian perspective. It argues that individualism leads to selfishness while totalitarian collectivism strips people of their uniqueness. Christianity recognizes that people are always more than what they think of themselves and find their fullness through relationships and service to others. It explores several aspects of the human person, including being rational, relational, embodied, and historical beings of equal worth. It defines community as a group sharing characteristics and interests, and emphasizes that relationships are integral to human flourishing rather than secondary to individuals.
This document discusses spiritual concepts like death, resurrection, and immortality. It explains that for those whose spiritual levels have risen sufficiently, there is a special process when they leave their physical body called "beaming up" where their essence gene is processed and their frequency is measured. If their frequency is high enough, they will be integrated into the light of the universal book to continue their mission of helping humanity progress spiritually.

Confucianism originated in China in the 6th-5th century BCE through the teachings of Confucius. It emphasizes learning, ethics, and virtue as a way to achieve social-political stability. Some key Confucian concepts include filial piety, proper social behavior and etiquette, and achieving balance in all things according to complementary forces like yin and yang.
This document summarizes and analyzes a research article about authentic subjectivity and social transformation. It discusses the views of Karl Marx and the Catholic Church's Second Vatican Council on these topics. The document analyzes Marx's early writings expressing a desire to dedicate his life to humanity's welfare. It also discusses how Vatican II linked the call to holiness with solidarity, especially with the poor. The document argues that Vatican II contradicted both Marx's later rejection of Christianity and interpretations within Christianity that saw social commitment as reducing authentic faith. It uses this analysis to discuss different understandings of holiness and Christianity's relationship to social transformation.

1. The document explores the concept of a "lightness of being" through analyzing Meister Eckhart's Christian mysticism and the idea of detachment from self.
2. Eckhart believed that through complete detachment and "breaking through" of individual will, one can transcend all concepts and experience a "modeless mode of being" in oneness with the divine.
3. This state is described using metaphors like "zensory experience" and involves transcending sensory experience to grasp a perfection of virtue beyond particular virtues.
4. The document analyzes how Eckhart's views relate to ideas of contemplating the good from philosophers like Iris Murdoch, with the overall aim
The document summarizes the author's childhood memories visiting the Laxmi-Narayan temple in Walaval, India. It describes taking trips there in a neighbor's vehicle and reminisces about the sights, smells, and taste of food from the area. While the author's faith diminished after learning Marxist perspectives, they now see deities as part of a holistic view of stress management, individual blossoming, and universal renaissance. The temple helps remind people of the destination of cosmic consciousness and averts arrogance and individualism.

1. The Unitarian Universalist Sources and Values Banner Project
Back in 2007 the Board of Trustees created the Welcoming Sanctuary Task Force and charged it with the task
of “transforming our buildings …into a truly welcoming and inspirational space, alive with the unique spirit of
our congregation in particular and of Unitarian Universalism in general.” We started our work in the vestibule
– cleaning, de-cluttering and repairing. We installed a new brochure rack and bought a stand for our rainbow
flag . And then a little over a year ago after soliciting design ideas from the congregation, in 2010 we installed
the much admired Chalice and Welcome sign in the tympanum. Our artist, Cooper Miller, designed,
fabricated and installed this sign.
Once we completed the tympanum art project, we were ready to think about ways to make our sanctuary itself
more welcoming. The Task Force members and most people who come into our sanctuary find it very beautiful
– the Minard Lafever gothic revival interior, the Tiffany stained glass windows, the two rose windows and the
beautiful angel mosaic on the west gallery wall. But as beautiful as the sanctuary is, the visual message that
most people receive when they enter is not a Unitarian Universalist message. If any religion is evoked, it is
Christianity, which is not surprising since our forbears considered themselves Christians and even named this
building the Church of the Savior. Our clerestory windows depict individuals who can be considered UU
“saints,” but still the visual “message” of this space is largely Christian, Euro-American and 19th century.
The Task Force wrestled to find a way to bring in our UU message, along with a 21st century vitality and color,
while still honoring the sanctuary’s existing beauty. What we have come up with is a set of banners to hang
from the balconies that evoke our UU Sources of Inspiration. The shape of the banners is inspired by our
gothic revival architecture and the colors are inspired by our Tiffany windows. We are so fortunate to have
within the congregation and Task Force two terrific artists, Cooper and Melody, who were able to take the ideas
we brainstormed and turn them into beautiful images. These images will give newcomers and congregants an
immediate visual understanding of who we are as UUs. The Task Force believes that this clear visual message
about who we are and what is important to us can only help us attract and retain new members. And the
beauty and vibrancy of the banners themselves will enhance everyone’s worship experience.
